I don't hear much about them on RPF.

What is their major negative that I should watch out for?

The major negative: They obviously have no idea what "Populist" has traditionally meant in the American political context. It traditionally means someone who is in favor government largess, generally to what would be called the middle class.

Considering how much the Libertarian Party fucked up by making Barr their nominee, I'd definitely support the Populist Party in 2012.

Yeah, I can't understand why the LP is so messed up?

You would think they had a natural niche as a place for liberty lovers to congregate before every election but they can't seem to get their act together!

Because they finally got their foot in the door with ol' Cato and now they represent 'urbane, metropolitan libertarianism'.

The LP needs to be taken over by real libertarians again!

I really like the Populist Party as it is today.

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that there is a libertarian party?

Am I the only one that finds it ironic that there is a libertarian party?

Not at all, and it's really the heart of the problem of the LP gaining traction in a political world. The only plank that the LP can ever consistently adopt would be a "deconstructionist" plank, as anything else represents some compromise to socialism.

I've been trying to formulate a new "party" label and apparatus that escapes the strictly political spectrum that the LP jumped into, one that can appeal to those who are not currently self-identified "libertarians" while also appeasing those who are apolitical to the point of shunning the democratic voting system.

It's a tough problem to figure out, but the reward is liberty and justice for all. What could be more American than that?

Sounds like they are a libertarian-esque party.

Anyway, I can't tell if I would vote one just based on some planks, I'd really need more information before I can say for certain I would.

Seven Principles of the Constitution Party are:

1. Life: For all human beings, from conception to natural death;
2. Liberty: Freedom of conscience and actions for the self-governed individual;
3. Family: One husband and one wife with their children as divinely instituted;
4. Property: Each individual's right to own and steward personal property without government burden;
5. Constitution: and Bill of Rights interpreted according to the actual intent of the Founding Fathers;
6. States' Rights: Everything not specifically delegated by the Constitution to the federal government, nor prohibited by the Constitution to the states, is reserved to the states or to the people;
7. American Sovereignty: American government committed to the protection of the borders, trade, and common defense of Americans, and not entangled in foreign alliances.

I don't vote parties, I vote for candidates. Whoever best embodies my principles I will vote for. As of now, you could say there are a few groups that do; LP Radical Caucus and a few in the RLC.

I'll most likely end up in 2012 if Ron doesn't run (I'm very confident he will...) vote for Mary if she runs and wins the nomination, but if Ron or Mary doesn't win/run then I will abstain from voting at least in the Presidential election.

VOTE FOR THE INDIVIDUAL CANDIDATES NOT PARTIES!

(1) How does #2 square with #3? Why do you want the state validating the actions of your church?

(2) What does #5 mean? And what was "the actual intent" when they were just compromising politicians each trying to pull wool over the others' eyes?

(3) #7 allows "America" to protect "trade" but limits "entangling alliances" - you can't have it both ways.

I'll think about taking Chuckie and the CP for seriously only after they drop their god from their political theory, but thanks for hijacking the thread by mass-posting a bunch of links to the same place with no argument or explanation.
