Remind them of McChrystals entitlement program strategy and what an "escalator supporter" is actually cheering on.

In typical party voter language with limited understanding:

Talk of inanimate objects (opium -and guns are also inanimate) and governments inability to raise tax revenue...and people going bad because they don’t have what they need. This is socialism on steroids.

This is dumping money into a ghetto to keep a people docile and needy. This is paying folks to behave. This is BULL. What liberty minded American in their right mind would give into their fear of an enemy, buy into this “strategy”, and cheer it on?

This isn't killing the enemy, it's putting potential terrorists on welfare.

General McChrystal:

• "We face not only a resilient and growing insurgency; there is also a crisis of confidence among Afghans--in both their government and the international community---that undermines our credibility and emboldens the insurgents."

• "Our strategy cannot be focused on seizing terrain or destroying insurgent forces; our objective must be the population."

• "...[A] properly resourced strategy must be built on four main pillars....2. Prioritize responsive and accountable government...assist in improving governance at all levels....that the Afghan people find acceptable...on par with, and integral to, delivering security."

• "Criminality creates a pool of manpower, resources and capabilities for insurgents and contributes to a pervasive sense of insecurity among the people. Extensive smuggling diverts major revenue from [the Afghan government]. Criminality exacerbates the fragmentation of Afghan society....A number of Afghan Government officials, at all levels, are reported to be complicit in these activities, further undermining [government] credibility.

• "The most significant aspect of the production and sale of opium and other narcotics is the corrosive and destabilizing impact on corruption with the [government]. Narcotics activity also funds insurgent groups...".

• "There are no clear lines separating insurgent groups, criminal networks (including narcotics networks) and corrupt [government] officials. Malign actors within the [government] support insurgent groups directly, support criminal groups that are linked to insurgents and support corruption that helps feed the insurgency."

• "The narco- and illicit economy and the extortion associated with large scale developmental projects undermine the economy in Afghanistan. [The government] cannot funds its operations because of its inability to raise revenue, a situation made worse by the illicit economy."

A shameless bump and some more info to share concerning the "hate us cause we're free" mentality.

Laid out for the ignorant, not preaching to the choir here. :)

Here’s McChrystals strategy:

http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/documents/Assessment_Redacted_092109.pdf?sid=ST2009092003140

While I vehemently oppose this strategy, I do feel we have to take to heart the section titled:

II Nature of the Conflict

“While not a war in the conventional sense, the conflict in Afghanistan demands a similar focus and an equal level of effort, and the consequences of failure are just as grave. The fight also demands an improved and evolved level of understanding.

The conflict in Afghanistan is often described as a war of ideas and perceptions; this is true and demands important consideration. However, perceptions are generally derived from actions and real conditions, for example by the provision or a lack of security, governance, and economic opportunity. Thus the key to changing perceptions is to change the fundamental underlying truths. To be effective, the counterinsurgent cannot risk credibility by substituting the situation they desire for reality.”

This is begging an examination of the “Hate us cause we’re free” mentality. An examination which is also buried by both the left and the right MSM and politicians.

Keeping this stated strategy buried only serves to dupe Americans into cheering for this socio-economic strategy of “fighting” the enemy, while perpetuating the “hate us cause we’re free” fear.

Get typical Republicans to embrace this socio-economic strategy with out realizing it, and get typical Democrats used to an “anti war” President escalating a “war”, and get both to sell out to fear.

War is a racket easily sold by fear, nationalism, and party. Gather courage and reject liberty killing strategies.
