Should RP choose a Democratic running mate in 2012 if he won the nomination or not?

Unless an old bourbon democrat magically appears, no. Ron Paul's greatest traits are his firm principles, so he shouldn't choose a running mate that contradicts them.

Actually, I wouldn't mind a Paul/Traficant ticket, good luck with that one though! Ha! I would however prefer a Paul/Ruwart ticket.

Is Ron Paul a Democrat now? If he is a Democrat now, and if he runs for the Democrat nomination and wins, he should pick a Democratic running mate.

If Ron Paul is still a Republican, and I have seen no evidence whatsoever that he isn't, if he runs for the Republican nomination and wins, he should pick a Republican running mate.

Ron Paul aside, if the Presidential nominee of one of the major parties picked as his running mate someone from the other party, it would be a mistake, because the people who he thought were going to vote for him or her, the people from his or her party, wouldn't do so, and he or she would lose very badly.

That is the way it works here in the United States.
