Rudy Giuliani, 44 percent
John McCain, 12 percent

This is the third poll of New Jersey voters in the past week that finds New Yorkers Clinton and Giuliani with sizable leads over their closest party rivals. Regardless of party affiliation, about half of all voters say the war in Iraq is the most important issue the candidates should address.

The telephone survey done by the Monmouth University/Gannett New Jersey Poll of 1,091 New Jersey voters was conducted Sept. 27-30 with a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The survey includes 411 likely Republican primary voters with a sampling error margin of plus or minus 5 percentage points and 478 likely Democratic primary voters with a sampling error margin of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
