It's a bit old but didnt see it posted and obviously can't verify the accuracy. Interesting nonetheless and may confirm something I've thought for a long time. US Presidents MUST originate from the same bloodline. Are all candidates from the bloodline? Don't know. There's other threads that speculate on this on RPF too.

SALINAS, Calif. -- A seventh-grader and her 80-year-old grandfather are allegedly the first people to discover that President Barack Obama is related to all other U.S. presidents except one.

BridgeAnne d'Avignon, who attends Monte Vista Christian School in Watsonville, traced that Obama, and all other U.S. presidents except Martin Van Buren, are related to John "Lackland" Plantagenet, a king of England and signer of the Magna Carta.

The student and her grandfather, who is a genealogist, spent this past summer designing the first known family tree chart in history that shows the presidents' direct relationship. BridgeAnne's grandfather has researched president genealogy for 60 years.

"I'm very glad I got this done, and I think it will turn out to be a success," BridgeAnne said.

BridgeAnne has written to Obama, who she has concluded is her own 11th cousin, in hopes that she will get a chance to present the president with the chart.

BridgeAnne's U.S. Presidents Family Tree is set to be on display Oct. 28 at the Monte Vista Christian School.

I think the article clearly stated about 3 times that they worked on this together. Geneology is cool. I'd like to see the chart.

The further you go back, the more a common ancestor becomes statically probable. Most everyone of European descent (which includes Obama) is related if you're going back into the Middle Ages.

See Wikipedia article: Most Recent Common Ancestor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_recent_common_ancestor)

Other models reported in Rohde, Olson, and Chang (2004)[4] suggest that the MRCA of Western Europeans lived as recently as AD 1000.

All the presidents, including Obama, are not only Western European, but they're almost all English in descent. Van Buren, who they said isn't descended through King John, was Dutch.

He's also Dick Cheney's cousin. I wish I were kidding.

A valid point about lineage depending how far back you go. However, I doubt that many of us are actually from royal bloodlines.

One suspicion I've had is that Obama's "timeline" is completely fabricated. The entire thing. Seems no one can get a straight answer on where he's from, what religion he is, who his ancestors are (they keep dying quietly). That's not to say that the alternative of another Bush or Clinton of known lineage is more appealing, just that it's possible that Obama's backstory is entirely fabricated. I mean, just the relation to Cheney itself raises a lot of eyebrows. What are the odds it's just some random twist? He came out of practically nowhere to elevate to President from relative obscurity. Makes me wonder if he hasn't been groomed for this for a lot longer than most think.

Genealogy... well, one of my ancestors came over on the Mayflower and one was murdered as a witch in Salem MA - how many of you can say that? I seem to remember my parents mentioning some royalty way, way back there - like a prince in the 1200's to 1400's... ??? and I'm 1 generation too far back to qualify for automatic Canadian citizenship. There is a bit of American Indian in there too. I'm basically a Euro mutt... Primarily Scottish, but some roots to Italian and English too.

He's been researching it for 60 years and she's in 7th grade. I think we can all read between the lines.

I think you'd be surprised. A person who lived around 1200 can easily have tens of millions of descendants today.

Well Obama related to Cheney... That's good enough for me to ask him to step aside.
