somewhat subtle... "detractors who dismiss the fact of climate change...."

"trick" of modifying the numbers - well, taken out of context, we don't know what's being referred to by trick - they could be talking about a normal statistical operation or something...

question "random" people on the street - all who think climate change is real.

something "odd" about the e-mails being leaked now...

belief in climate change has slipped slightly, from 80% last year to 72% this year... almost all of that 8% loss is among Repubs and Independents, w/ Democrats staying fairly solid. (source of poll or info like who polled and how large of a sample was not given). In anyevent, the vast majority of people climate change is real and something needs to be done about it...

and so on...

So only 72% now believe the earth is warming. Obviously the numbr of people who believe the earth is warming due to man is significantly less than this. Of course they leave this out.

As far as the poll, that says most want a cap and tax. I don't believe it. No doubt, the way the question was worded Frank Luntz style, to get the response desired. I would like to see the poll they are citing.

Excellent job of spinning CNN as usual.

By the way, I just googled CNN climategate and it brought me here. HAHA.

Climategate, Sen. Inhofe, Stuart Varney and Ed Begley Jr.

Watch the whole thing, but the Ed Begley part was hilarious. It's amazing how defensive these people can get when their views are challenged.

If I had no regard for NAP and Natural Law I would punch Ed Begley for being a dunce and a tyrant.

According to this recent poll that made a lot of headlines a few weeks ago (http://people-press.org/report/556/global-warming (http://people-press.org/report/556/global-warming)), only 36% of people believe "there is solid evidence the earth is warming because of human activity". And only 57% believe "there is solid evidence the earth is warming", quite a difference from the 72% number they use.

The difference can probably be attributed to the wording of the poll questions. Here is the poll used in the CNN segment if anyone is interested:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/postpoll_111609.html?sid=ST2009112403099 (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/polls/postpoll_111609.html?sid=ST2009112403099) (question 40)

Note that there is no mention of the word "global warming" in the poll question, but CNN presents the results as the percentage of people that "believe global warming is happening".

Hey, since when did CNN hire Frank Luntz?

the way they poll is a joke... thats like two months ago or so i was reading the results of polling in time magazine.. it was some high percentage like 80 something percent who thought that a higher percentage of mothers now in the workplace was a positive thing, then another question where another really high percentage who thought that it was a negative thing that most children no longer have a parent who stays at home for them.. these polls dont mean shyt, the respondents just pick whatever sounds more 'politically correct'
