Governor Gary Johnson to Keynote the 2010 International Conference
Gary Johnson, the former Governor of New Mexico will be the Friday Keynote for the International Students For Liberty Conference (http://politicalconferences.org/2009/07/zow/) on February 12-14th at American University. For 8 years Gary Johnson was one of the most principled Governors in the country who lived up to his libertarian reputation.
As Governor Gary Johnson was a principled and effective defender of both economic and civil liberties. Under Johnson's administration, New Mexico experienced the longest period without a tax increase in the state's history, the rate of growth in the state government was cut in half, half of the state's prisons were privatized (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privatization), state Medicaid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicaid) was shifted to managed care, and the state was left with approximately 1,000 fewer employees (with no firings) and a budget surplus.
