Today Congress mandated that cruise ships install video surveillance systems - to protect you from terrorists, of course... camera trumps AK??? - Brainfart!

Any bets on how long it will be before they mandate installing them in your bedroom?

Finally found a link (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2009/10/24/Cruise-ship-safety-measure-wins-House-OK/UPI-41501256368427/) that does not salivate with praise over the action.

"The legislation also would require video-surveillance systems, time-sensitive key cards and technology to help determine when someone goes overboard."

The US House has passed a bill requiring any cruise ship serving American ports be equipped with video surveillance, standard rail heights, and a host of other feel-good measures.

This is being almost universally praised by all media sources as a great thing, but my question is...where does the Constitution authorize Congress to legislate that Carnival Cruise Lines install video camera surveillance throughout their ships?

The only thing more disturbing than the act itself, is the fact that pretty much every news source reporting this is spinning it so hard that it's about to breech orbit. Every media source I can find EXCEPT for the UPI (linked above) seems to think this is the best thing that has happened in America in a decade (aside from Obama being elected, of course).

The UPI seems to be at least TRYING to report the facts objectively. Everybody else is spinning it like "The US House Passes Essential Legislation To Keep Passengers Safe" etc.
