This isn't my idea. It was sent to me via my meetup group mailing list.
I don't think it's a bad idea at all. Hopefully this can be implemented in NH.

This is the plan.. (http://ronpaulcentral.com/)

This is what it said in the email..

The way I see it, the hard part (the website) has already been done.

Yeah, the idea is great. The website however looks like those generic porn/hacker websites from the 90s, haha. I went to the end, of the videos, but there are so many videos I gave up after a minute. Maybe just have 2 videos at the end, and a link to more videos. But loading them all up at once on the last page, at least for me on a cable modem, took too long.

It strikes me as spam. I'm not sure how much of that impression is from the website and how much of it is just the idea itself. What the hell does a rock have to do with Ron Paul? It makes me feel tricked and that's not a good feeling.

My philosophy is, the marketing strategy that works is the one that educates consumers without making them jump through hoops.

Not to mention, the people we really need to be reaching are not Internet savvy. Actual conversations with people or at least a well thought out letter with RP literature will have a far greater impact, IMO.

You wouldn't think 30 second commercials would get a person to vote for someone either....

Logic doesn't work on the public. That was the first fatal assumption in putting together your argument. :)

Marketing isn't an exact science, but there has been a ton of research on it that tells us that there are things that work and things that don't.

This method may make people visit the website, but I'm betting that the information they find there will either not leave a lasting impression OR it will spark a negative response for feeling like they have wasted their time.

I still can't believe that people follow through with spam in general. Or chain emails. Or chain letters.

It boggles the mind.

Hope has it right.

I strongly urge you to not do this. Please think through the consequences of your actions.

Look, this gentleman's plan to spread Ron Paul's message of freedom is to throw garbage into the driveways of unsuspecting homeowners under cover of darkness. Not only is this illegal, it is likely to be perceived as an irritating nuisance.

Instead of throwing trash in these peoples' driveways, why don't you stop at the door to talk? What a difference that makes!

Or if you insist on using this "magic rock" strategy, why don't you take your rock bags and solicit people to accept your gift of a "magic rock" at some target-audience event or gathering in your community?

Though I can't see why on earth it wouldn't be more effective to just go out there with a Ron Paul t-shirt and a Ron Paul sign and distribute Ron Paul literature and be as visible and straightforward as possible.

You don't need to trick people into learning about Ron Paul. Most people still don't know who he is, and if you bring the message to them and are open and upfront, they will be glad to find out!

The first fatal assumption of your argument is that people need to be tricked into learning about Ron Paul. Is Ron Paul trying to pull something on them? Is Ron Paul a thief in the night?

The very best way to tell people about Ron Paul and the message of freedom is run an advertisement.

Barring that, the next best way by a long shot is to go door to door or to a community gathering, wearing a Ron Paul t-shirt, with a Ron Paul sign, and with a stack of Ron Paul literature to distribute.

We have a message that people WANT to hear, not a message they need to be tricked into hearing. The problem is that we have too few willing messengers, and too many people spending their time trying to come up with gimmicks when they could be out sharing the message.

If you're serious about making suggestions I can PM you the email addy that came with the mail that I got. The one I posted upscreen is the addy on the site.

I don't know, I've rethought this some based on some of the arguments in this thread. I think there are more direct, open and honest ways to go about this. We're not trying to dupe people into our "product", we're trying to be direct.

I think this is a great idea, but the website is terrible. The design on that website, as well as the topics chosen, scream FRINGE CANDIDATE or CONSPIRACY THEORIST. Very bad image. Most people won't go for it.

Look to the new slim jims for inspiration on how to get his message across to the masses.

Right on! It's especially troublesome when gimmicks like this involve RP supporters devoting so much time and money into distributing them.

Write a letter to the editor. Wave signs and distribute liberty cards at a popular intersection during rush hour. If you don't want to go door to door talking to people, write a well thought out letter and tape it to their mailbox. Just about any method I can think of to get RP's message out is better than the old bait-and-switch that is being suggested here.

Yeah I have to agree. I don't think people would like being tricked.

Myself, I have plastic door hanger bags and put trifolds in them. Yes admittedly I am a chicken and I leave them and go. But I am doing the flea market in the latest town I hit door to door in less than 2 weeks. I am more comfortable when people come to me and talk.

I don't like the site at all. it is too dard and it takes forever to get to RP stuff. Plus the guy used the work blitzkrieg. They are already comparing us to Nazis with out using Natzi terms too.

There are still tons of people who don't use the internet.

You'd have as much success by just dropping a flyer (I like the mosaic flyer myself) in their door... and then EVERYONE could read the message, not just those with the internet. The marketing ploy your friend used years ago with great success was NOT for a political campaign. Getting someone to call you to buy something is way different than converting voters.

My ex and her mom were outside Perkins tonight distributing campaign materials to their meetup members, and they had a huge 2x4 sign propped against the car. An old couple came out of the restaurant, saw the sign, and asked "Who is Ron Paul?" One of the kids responded with a quick blurb and suggested she visit his site. Her response? "Oh, I'm 82 years old, my hubby is 84. We don't mess with that internet stuff!" But yet, after talking for just 2 minutes, she was more than happy to take a flyer, a couple business cards AND a few bumper stickers for her and her friends.

Gimmicks to get people to the site aren't worth it. Giving them the info directly will have a better return and stronger impact.
