So i was reading about RINO on wikipedia, and was a bit surprised to see Ron Paul as #2 on the list of "National Journal's Top 25 Liberal Republicans in the House of Representatives"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_In_Name_Only

although there is a little explanation on the bottom about Paul high standing, I just thought it was quite amusing to lable Paul a liberal lol when as he said himself in the debates "I'm the most conservative person on this stage"

Its probably because his positions on nation security, anti-drug war, etc., are considered liberal by the uniformed masses, Dems and neo-cons.

If Ron Paul were called liberal, it'd be by the informed masses. "Liberal" is a hijacked word that now equates to "social liberal" (the same way "conservative" now equates to "neoconservative" and "capitalism" is "corporatism"). It's bullshit. A liberal is one who believes in individual rights over that of corporations and governments. In this sense, Ron Paul's very economically liberal. However, Ron Paul does favor the oppressive Republic (I think most of us would agree it's for our own good, though) which limits the representation of the average citizen and has unfair "super laws" (the Constitution & amendments) which cannot be changed by a mere majority. In that political sense, Ron Paul is a conservative. He's a liberal conservative, and that's why the Ron Paul movement attracts both liberals and conservatives.

Conservatism used to want to conserve the monarchy. Then conservatives wanted to conserve classical liberalism. Now they want to conserve moderate interventionism against socialism.

In other words, conservative gets its meaning based on the latest hip new ideology. So while I would consider myself, like RP, a conservative in the second sense (conserve the constitution), I can't help but agree with Hayek's "Why I am Not a Conservative (http://www.fahayek.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=46)" in the greater scheme of things.

Don't get mad when I say this but I think Paul is a RINO... I am saying this because the Republicans have lost their way.. Paul is does not fit in with today's Mainstream Republicans. Even though Ron Paul has different opinions on the War, terrorism, drugs, than mainstream republicans.. 30 years ago Paul would have been considered a Republican. Its sad to say, in today's world being a conservative and being a Republican are two different things.

Republicans HATE Obama but it was perfectly fine for Bush to continue and mismanage two wars, it was fine for Bush to spend money like a drunken sailor, it was fine for Bush to award Haliburton contracts... It was fine for Bush to collapse the dollar, it was fine for Bush to have millions of foreclosures.. It was fine for Bush to increase Government. It was fine for Bush to support NAFTA, the NAFTA Superhighway and New World Order.. Obama does the exact same thing on a much larger scale and suddenly Republicans are taking notice this isn't a good thing? And Democrats who blasted Bush for the Patriot Act, Wars, Spending, and Haliburton think Obama is our Savior for carrying out and expanding the same policies of Bush...
