WASHINGTON – Republicans wrested political control of Virginia from the Democrats on Tuesday as independent voters swung behind the GOP, a troubling sign for President Barack Obama and his party heading into an important midterm election year. New Jersey decided whether to stick with unpopular Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine.

Don't know anything about mcDonald but I draw satifaction that the O man was set back. Gridlock as a rear action strategy is a good tool.

I might call the ex-wife (D-VA-10th District) and ask her what she thinks of it.:p

Yeah, pretty much my feelings, too. I'd like to see the same outcome in N.J., but that's a much harder nut to crack.

The best news in VA is that Cuccinelli won Attorney General....Ron Paul endorsed him and has very good things to say about him, and he's apparently a big opponent of Real ID and some other things.

McDonnell isn't ideal, he's a neocon, but he's much better than Deeds. People in VA saw this coming, although I expected a 55/45 split, and it's closer to 65/35. Tim Kaine (outgoing Dem governor) was TERRIBLE and had a bad track record....so I'm not surprised.

Hopefully, Corzine will go down in flames, too. Except for a few constitutionally principled incumbents, hopefully the electorate will enforce term limits on politicians in the future.

VA has traditionally been a red state anyway. Obama's and the Dems aura is wearing off.

Quite so. Easy to rally students at liberal universities to go out and vote. Harder to get country folk out of the hills. They were happy to sit back when they thought the Fed. would just leave them alone. Now, they'll be comin' down the mountain ridin' six white horses. The votes were there against Obama, everyone just didn't think they would really be affected. VA won't vote Dem next time.
