Author Joe Dumas is a commissioner for Hamilton County, TN. Whoops, he's a Libertarian so some praise for RP would be expected, but his reasoning ought to snag anyone who reads this:

This is one of the best articles I've read and yes it does need to be spread far and wide.

LTE's are generally short comments on pieces written in the paper, or some local/national issue going on, and they're all piled together in one spot in the paper (my local paper runs about 5-8 a day).

Opinion pieces are full length feature pieces and typically a paper only runs 2 or so a day.
