Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman, who was embraced by the Republican Party after state Assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava dropped out, leads Democrat Bill Owens in a two-way match-up 54 percent to 38 percent with 8 percent undecided, according to a Public
Policy Polling survey conducted Oct. 31-Nov. 1.

PPP predicts Hoffman will win a "resounding victory."

The pollster had been in the midst of taking the pulse of the upstate New York House district where a three-way race was in progress with Republican Dede Scozzafava, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens when Scozzafava dropped out.

In the three-way race, Hoffman led Owens 51 percent to 34 percent with 13 percent for Scozzafava (who is still on the ballot) with 3 percent undecided. Siena College will weigh in with a new poll tomorrow.

Had Scozzafava faced off just against Owens, Owens led 37 percent to 34 percent with 30 percent undecided. The margin of error is 2.3 points.

Hoffman is seen favorably by a 50 percent to 37 percent margin with 13 percent undecided. Owens is seen unfavorably by a 45 percent to 35 percent ratio with 20 percent undecided. Scozzafava was seen unfavorably by a 52 percent to 31 percent margin with 17 percent undecided.

There has been much debate about whether Scozzafava is a moderate or liberal. Forty-five percent believe she is a liberal, 43 percent see her as a moderate and 12 percent as a conservative.

I hope this is Newt's downfall as a contender in '12. He is definately in the McCain wing that is trying to push the party left to win when he came out for Scozzafava.

Why vote for a fake Democrat when you can have the real thing? The GOP needs to figure this out.
