What do you guys think about public financing

I actually don't know much about it but I have a relative who is totally pushing it. I imagine it's bad (I cringe at anything with the word public in it) but what do you guys think? I may have to argue with her about it in the future.

Public financing is a dumb idea because as soon as a candidate can raise more money on his own, he will.

Ask your relative what he thinks of Obama breaking his promise to take public financing, and raising his own money instead in the 2008 election.
