The only time I tried sporting clays was at a conference where they had a course. It was great getting a shot-gun, a few boxes of ammo, and a golf-cart :D

You do raise a good point though, and that is modifying this idea for fund-raising in your neck of the woods (A trap-shoot contest...). While I would prefer if it was tied to
