I can't say I agree with much of this guy's perspective. But he's not the first RLC member I've seen express these views. And, while I'd prefer him over Scozzafava, I still think it's good to be cautious before supporting Hoffman just because someone calls him a conservative and he's a way to poke the Republican establishment in the eye.

I do. It was a pretty accurate assesment in my view. It is virtually impossible to have economic liberty without civil liberties. All of this bogus conservative talk means nothing if he wants to increase the power of government. In a year, the damage from the liberals will already be done, and the "conservatives" will be back in power.

I'm looking ahead to the future, and we DO NOT want another batch of Rick Santorum types who will frothing for more war and police state. They will think the country has given them a mandate for exactly that, and will push any economic crap the socialists put aside for us, for another day.

[quote]I don’t know all that much about Doug Hoffman’s politics. He manages to avoid mentioning most of the tough issues on his website. But I can guess what some of them are by his list of endorsements, which includes a number of groups which can only be considered strongly anti-liberty and even among the greatest enemies of liberty on the political right./quote]

I stopped right there. Criticizing Doug Hoffman over his endorsements is utterly retarded. Is he better than both the Dems & Republican candidates? Yes.

Apparently being a "liberty candidate" for some people means forcing statist support of gay marriage and abortion on those who disagree. I want candidates who will take such volatile social issues away from unelected federal judges and give them back to the states to decide. That's Ron Paul's position as well as the position of Chuck Baldwin. (You remember? The guy he supported for president? The guy that didn't stab the liberty movement in the back like Bob Barr did by endorsing Eric Holder?)

I wonder sometimes if people who push some of this stuff actually understand the candidate they (supposedly) supported in 2008?

Also the thread title is dishonest! The "Liberty Caucus" hasn't endorsed anybody in that race! Calling one blog post by one member of the Liberty Caucus a general endorsement is just plain wrong!

John M. Drake

Major thread title error: "The views expressed here are those of the author and do not necessarily reflect official positions of the RLC."
