Obama says winner of clean-energy race will lead global economy

LATimes (http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-obama-energy24-2009oct24,0,3902427.story)

Reporting from Washington - Over the next three years, Americans will be required to replace nearly all their traditional light bulbs with cooler, more energy-efficient bulbs under a 2007 bill signed by President Bush.

But almost all of the 100 production lines needed to churn out new bulbs are expected to be built overseas. Similar scenarios are likely to play out for wind turbines, solar cells and other parts of the emerging global market for clean energy.

That's the gloomy prospect faced by federal officials and business leaders alike as they confront the twin challenges of combating climate change and trying to keep the U.S. competitive in the multitrillion-dollar race to develop and sell new energy systems.

President Obama emphasized the opportunities -- and acknowledged the challenges -- in a speech at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston on Friday.

"From China to India, from Japan to Germany, nations everywhere are racing to develop new ways to produce and use energy," he said. "The nation that wins this competition will be the nation that leads the global economy. I am convinced of that. And I want America to be that nation."

....contd

that leads the global economy

He didn't mention in what -- exports, production, imports, deficit , debt or bankruptcy. Like people invested in stocks lost their money the country lost the money, because it never returned. Now with one or other mandatory green purchases they wants to siphon off another chunk of your economy.

Hey Obama, we have a near unlimited supply of cheap energy -- NUCLEAR. Use it! I really, really, do hate enviro-marxists with a fierce passion.

About nuclear energy, how do you propose dealing with the nuclear waste?

Bury it in concrete bunkers far beneath the Earth. They've only spent like 20 years fucking around with the Yucca mountains in Nevada. Once they start to fill up (Takes a LONG time), just launch the excess into a trajectory deep in outer space, or towards the sun. Presto.

Also, France has nearly 100+ Nuclear Power Plants and they have no problem whatsoever. Wind, Solar, etc. all fine for personal small-scale use. Large scale it's totally disastrous and will never, ever work. Both sources are un-reliable. If you like rolling brown and black-outs, then be my guest have at it. Secondly, they also refuse to use Hydro power which is clean and efficient, but might disturb a fish or two, boo-hoo.

In any event, there is no sudden need for new sources of energy right now. Let the market decide if certain sources are sustainable or not. Not Government entities with obvious political and personal self-interests. Obama is in bed with GE. GE is in bed with Obama. They don't care whether the shit works, or is efficient, or even if people want it. All they care about is power and money. FUCK CORPORATISM.

PS: Global Warming is the biggest fraud ever committed in Human history.

I think you hit the nail on the head with something there... personal use.

Know what? Start building more solar homes, or retro-fitting the ones that can take it. Have a few smaller wind farms, etc.. Have more neighborhoods that produce more power than they use. That's a start.

As a culture use less packaging and other crap, and perhaps make mass-transit make sense (it would take me five hours to get to work by bus?) in metro areas. This shouldn't be rocket science, and it shouldn't be expensive, but leave it to the Gov....

Yes!

Nuclear energy is the cheapest and safest energy in the world. All the BS about nuclear waste and nuclear meltdowns is propaganda to keep countries dependent on oil.
