Tavis Smiley?

lol

Why LOL? Tavis is a serious journalist that has consistently given Ron Paul a fair shake. I used Dr. Paul's comments in the presidential debate Tavis held to counter act the racism smear against Paul to good effect. Tavis was one of the first prominent blacks to criticize Obama (we won't count the Jesse Jackson "cut his nuts off" comment) and he took a lot of heat for that. Several months ago he had Professor Cornell West on who was basically parroting Ron Paul's arguments against the bailouts and he called Obama's economic team "neoliberals controlled by Wall street who are taking money from the rest of us". Such criticism is significant coming from a man who had campaigned for Obama and had even introduced Obama at the Apollo theater campaign stop. We aren't going to make further gains if we keep kicking people that have a history of being helpful while embracing people that have a history of stabbing us in the back.

Regards,

John M. Drake

I agree Drake, Tavis Smiley has been very fair to Dr. Paul for the most part. The only times I have seen other than that, I think was just because he was misunderstanding.

Ok. Just watched watched the interview. Tavis pitched Ron some nice ones which he hit out of the ballpark!

(Note : I'm paraphrasing)
* The Afghan war is a foolish policy and we need to pull out now.
* It's not that I'm against all government, but like most Americans I don't think this government is acting in our best interests.
* We're doing more to destabilize the region by staying there then we would by leaving. Now Pakistan is unstable and we're looking at overthrowing Iran.
* Karzai is a puppet. Sometimes we turn on our puppets. Look what happened with the CIA overthrew and killed Diem.
* There is no law that requires federal reserve notes to be legal tender but the government enforces this anyway. The constitution says gold and silver shall be legal tender but if you try to do that they'll put you in jail.
* Mexico now allows people to deposit silver in their banks to ward off inflation of the peso and that's working well.
* If the fed continues to print money causing runaway inflation that will wipe out the middle class. The very rich get bailed out. They don't care about the cost of living.
* The freedom argument is this. If you have a secret central bank that counterfeits money government can grow. If everybody had to pay for things like the Patriot Act through taxes it wouldn't happen. This counterfeit money is used to fund wars. Anytime you have war people have to sacrifice. People give up personal liberty for the "greater good".

And Tavis did a good job plugging "End the Fed" in his final comments. Great interview!

Why LOL?

Just his name... :) I think it's funny.

I expected it to be a Saturday Night Live skit or a Sesame Street character.

Drake - some people think being cynical about EVERYTHING makes them look smart.

Drake - some people think being cynical about EVERYTHING makes them look smart.

But some of us are just naturally cynical. It's like breathing to us. (We only wish it made us look smart.)

monsieur tavis smiley is a media PBS person with credentials in abundance most properly
given that he is often tidily succinctly apt at the art of the direct interview format at times!

I actually managed to see this as I was browsing TV last night. Very good respectful interview.

I've always enjoyed watching Tavis' show, on occasion. He does good interviews.

I remember Stuart Smalley (wasn't that Franken's character in the first pic?)... he had a funny skit back in the day with Michael Jordan on. Good stuff.
