Howard Roark in New Delhi (http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2009/10/19/howard_roark_in_new_delhi?page=0,0)

...
"Not only do Indians perform more Google searches for Rand than citizens of any country in the world except the United States, but Penguin Books India has sold an impressive number of copies -- as many as 50,000 of Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead each since 2005, a number comparable to sales there by global best-seller John Grisham. And that's not counting the ubiquitous pirated copies of her works that are hawked at rickety street stalls, sidewalk piles, and bus stations -- an honor that Rand, a fierce defender of intellectual property rights, probably would not have appreciated.
...
In recent years, the so-called "Howard Roark effect" has swept across wealthy Indian society. Shortly after winning Miss India Earth, the country's top beauty pageant, in 2005, Niharika Singh cited The Fountainhead as her favorite book. "Ayn Rand helped me win the crown," she declared. Other stars, including biotech queen Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, actress Preity Zinta, and soccer-player-turned-dancer Baichung Bhutia have all credited Rand with helping them succeed. "

indians are another natural constituency that "conservative" GOP needs to cultivate.

business saavy, self reliant, strong family values, and very affluent etc.

.....but noooooo....Juan McCain and his closeted gay sidekick Linsey Grahamnesty would rather pursue the impossible courtship of Obama loving blacks and Mexican illegals......

The GOP does not represent freedom by a long shot. Let's focus on freedom rather than political parties, which will never lead to 1 more ounce of freedom.

Not surprising. Rand's philosophy can appeal to any person, regardless of culture. Of course, here, it's still shrugged off as lunacy by the left.

There's not many Indian-Americans compared to blacks & Hispanics to be fair.

No it's not. It's still a pretty small block.

Let's call the number of conservative (and free market espousing, liberty loving) black Americans CB, the number of conservative Hispanic Americans CH, and the number of conservative Asian Americans CA. The number of people in CA is nowhere near the number in CB or CH. Of course no one in any of those groups would have any reason to support McCain regardless.

Interesting. An Indian girl joined my YAL group on campus, and she is also an objectivist.

the increasingly literate and post-industrial rising middle classes of India are at
the level of sophistication we westerners either do yearn for or take for granted!!!
as a longstanding Ayn Rand fan, i am pleased at her posthumous fame & book sales!
