Might not be true. FreeRepublic ain't reliable. They have had in the past literally dozens of false Osama/al-Zawahiri/Arafat is dead breaking news stories on their front page.

I agree we need to see if it is confirmed tomorrow. If it is confirmed, I am guessing what Israel will do and fast. I take the Italian report more serious.

If all would re read my first post, I said we need to confirm if accurate.

The Italian article might give some credibility. We will know if right or not tomorrow. Just saying he is very old, and it might be true.

Great find. DHS having it on their website is taking it serious. Yes, they would bury him within 24 hours, if correct, is my understanding. You can bet his coffin will be out in the public.

He was reported to have died in 2007 as well. Will have to wait for official word. (this article is from 2007- not this week). Not even a peep from anything reliable.

It seems to have all been started – or at least given credence – by the leading American neocon Michael Ledeen.

Quoting an "excellent" but anonymous source, on Monday he wrote: "Yesterday afternoon at 2.15pm local time Khamenei collapsed and was taken to his special clinic. Nobody – except his son and the doctors – has since been allowed to get near him. His official, but secret, status is 'in the hands of the gods'."

Yesterday Ledeen repeated rumours that have been going around the Tehran Bazaar that Khamenei had died.

But Ledeen has a track record in spreading misinformation, according to the US magazine Vanity Fair, which claimed he was linked in the false reports that Saddam Hussein tried to buy yellowcake uranium in Niger – one of the main pretexts for the invasion of Iraq.

Hmm...sounds like the neocons are trying to spread rumors. Possibly to push for striking Iran at an "opportune" time.
