Current Communist Goals

EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman's request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following "Current Communist Goals," which she identifies as an excerpt from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen:

[From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist affiliation and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.

5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.

6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.

7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.

8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of Khrushchev's promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under supervision of the U.N.

9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States has agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.

10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.

11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind. If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow. Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing in the Congo.)

12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.

13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.

14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.

15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.

16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.

17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.

18. Gain control of all student newspapers.

19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions.

21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.

22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms."

23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis.

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took over.

32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc.

33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of the Communist apparatus.

34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.

35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.

36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.

37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents.

42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use ["]united force["] to solve economic, political or social problems.

43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready for self-government.

44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.

45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent the World Court from seizing jurisdiction [over domestic problems. Give the World Court jurisdiction] over nations and individuals alike.

Ask yourself, how much of this has already been accomplished.

Last night, while skimming through the shows that I record on Fox News, I heard most of them whining about how the W.H. unleashed the Communications Director to go on CNN and declare Fox as their 'opponent'. They have assigned various people to watch the shows in an effort to "call them out" when they 'misinform' the public.

Someone please explain to me how Fox can be considered controlled opposition? It seems to me like they are UNcontrolled opposition.

Please look at this list? It is from 1963. How much of it has already been accomplished? Isn't this worth a discussion?

Pretty interesting list. Id say most of those things have been accomplished or are in the process of being accomplished. I'm not overly concerned though since communism is always doomed to fail. Though what we have is closer to fascism which is similar of course. Fascism fails too usually but it's a bigger and more difficult beast to destroy in my opinion.

They are working "the other side of the coin". The effect is to tear apart the country, perhaps to provoke some to act out and give an excuse to crack down.

They are all propaganda outlets. when they tell the truth (and they all do) it is to sell a lie or to provoke a reaction.

The last thing TPTB want is a united opposition to world government.

I still don't get it. If the gov't wants the NWO, then how is Fox, specifically, Judge Nap, Glenn Beck, and a couple others, playing into it by exposing it? It seems to me tptb have been trying to do this incrementally (see OP) so as not to bring attention to it, lest the masses of people revolt. There ARE more of us than there are of them. How many millions of households own weapons? How many millions of us have already had enough?

By allowing (or instructing) Fox to rail against the Obama administration and the Fed, etc. all that is accomplished is more people waking up. How does that help tptb? If there is a revolt, many of them won't survive it either as I would guess they will be the first targets.

I think Cleon Skousen was a fine man. He wrote that 5,000 year leap book that Beck recommended and also wrote "The Making of America", a book on the Constitution that Dr. Paul has said he refers to often.

Not overly concerned? NOT OVERLY CONCERNED? Communism killed 60+ million people. You better be overly concerned.

Secondly, what is life, without liberty. Apathy is worst than death.

Yes! And what is really interesting to me is that excerpts of his book were entered into the Congressional record in 1963. And it astounds me how much of what he saw coming has happened.

But this is just a list from Cleon Skousen's book. It was just an invention of his imagination. It's not like he actually got this list from some Soviet source. I agree that we can see a lot of those things have already happened, just as Congressman Herlong could see them happening in 1963, which is why he got duped into taking the list seriously and reading it so that it would be recorded in the Congressional Record (a decision for which I can only assume he later felt pretty embarrassed). But I guess I just feel like continuing to propagate this is like rewarding Skousen for being unethical.

If most of it has been accomplished, then how is it an invention of his imagination??? Could it be that he is an accomplished researcher and provided accurate prognostications based on his expertise?? Like Schiff and R.P. have done?

Obama was at G20 and the UN in the last month pushing the final, and, top 3-goals

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

By the way, these goals came out of London, not Moscow.

Skousen's book should have been called The Naked Globalist, as that would have been more accurate.

Sure. And I assume that's exactly what he did do. And most of these things weren't even hard to predict or to see already happening. But he pawned them off as "current Communist goals" instead of just a list of a combination of things he was against and things that any fool would know would be beneficial for the Soviets for the sensationalistic angle. And some people got fooled by it. And Herlong was one of them.

Your opinion - which is backed by what evidence?

You already posted the 1963 Congressional Record. It's right there. And besides that proof that Herlong fell for it, there are tons of stories of other people encountering that list even before 1963 and believing it really came from the Soviets somehow. It's been making the urban legend rounds nonstop since Skousen came up with it.

First you say they are "an invention of his imagination". Then you say "most of these things weren't even hard to predict or to see already happening". Then I ask you what your evidence is that "he pawned them off as "current Communist goals" and you refer me back to the list.

I think I remember debating you before. A complete waste of time......

I guess I don't know what proof you're asking for. The ultimate source of this list is Skousen. It's not like he actually sourced these things himself. Of course you can believe that he had some kind of inside Soviet source without any reason to think that. But then if that's what's going on, then it's you who are swallowing the unproven claim not me. I don't see any reason to imagine that this list can go back any further than it can actually be traced, which is to Skousen.

If you're asking for proof that many people have actually taken the list seriously, then what more proof do you need than that Congressional Record in your OP? The words "current Communist goals" are right there at the top of it. Don't you think Herlong's point was based on his belief that these were real Soviet goals known from some real Soviet source? Do I really need to go dig up proof that other people thought the same thing, and that some people even today still come across these goals (sometimes by way of that very Congressional Record entry) and still do believe that?

Please don't take me out of context and the caps are unnecessary as well. A little respect to others on these forums is expected from everyone. Now if you would actually read what I was saying instead of being emotional about 2 words that would be appreciated.

I was saying I'm not overly concerned about communism coming to this country since as I was saying we have fascism. Thanks for blowing up on me though. By the way there is no need to be overly concerned about anything.. you'll just lose your mind or in your case just your cool so far. Plus I've learned the more radical I am the less people pay attention to me and less is achieved.

You can go read the 10 planks of the Communist Manifesto, if you'd rather. We've just about wrapped those up too.

Good point. It's unfortunate that Herlong didn't have a staffer who was shrewd enough to talk him into reading those instead and spare him the embarrassment of being remembered in posterity as the congressman who got taken in by Skousen's list.

No, they are controlling what they know exists-opposition. By giving the impression of a fair and balanced platform they can then soft sell how the opposition will respond. This is why Beck is so dangerous, as he has sucked many folks in with his tea party folks. They are dilluting the message and rather efffectively from what I see and hear.

They want a show down to implement the final touches on the control grid. what they do not want is an unanticipated showdown. So they infiltrate and lead.

The Judge is window dressing. He,imo, probably does not realize it.

I used to watch FOX news. They are very good at propaganda and completely succcessful in an environment displaying the effects of the slippery slope. Then I stepped back and realized how watching them was warping my values and they were selling the same hedonism and extensive control of the opposing party they try to "distance" themselves from daily.
