Limbaugh: Obama's presidency worsening relations between races
By Jordan Fabian - 10/12/09 08:30 AM ET

In a rare interview, conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said that President Barack Obama's election has worsened racial problems, not helped solve them.

Limbaugh claimed that critics of Obama's policies are quickly labeled racist, creating a toxic environment for political discourse.

"I'll be honest with you, I predicted to you it was going to exacerbate racial problems, and it has," he told NBC in an interview that aired this morning. "Any criticism of President Obama is going to be said to be racism. And if you don't like his healthcare bill, racism. And I opposed it when Clinton and Hillary were trying to do it, and they aren't black."

Limbaugh, who is an adamant opponent of President Obama, said that his election as the first black president "was wonderful when it happened" but that he "got over it very quickly."

"He's the president of the United States. His skin color doesn't matter to me, his policies are what matter," Limbaugh added.

When asked if some of the past segments on his show, such as a song called "Barack the 'Magic Negro,' " crossed the line from satire into racism — Limbaugh defended them as pure satire.

"Would you ask someone who writes for 'Saturday Night Live' these questions?" he responded, saying the title was lifted from a Los Angeles Times column written by a black man.

Limbaugh also demurred when asked if he was the leader of the Republican Party and had the power to influence GOPers like party Chairman Michael Steele. The chairman apologized to Limbaugh after he criticized him several months ago.

"Well, I'm going to dispute that I have that much power," Limbaugh said. "I believe in the free market. And if the free market creates that with my participation in it — then it is what it is."

It brings the racists out of the woodwork that's for sure. But I'd be hesitant to say that it actually created racists or worsened relations.

The racists have always been there but certain events (Be it Katrina, Obama being elected, etc.) just make them more vocal.

Explain to me the racism involved in Katrina?
Was it because the dark skinned mayor abandoned his dark skinned citizens?
It was more like the rich commandeered national guard rescue crews to save their own asses and left the poor to drown and starve. Had jack to do with race.
New Orleans is a "chocolate" city. you are more likely to be discriminated against for being light skin in new orleans.

I welcome it, because every time a person's defense boils down to racism accusations, it shows how dumb they are.

If anything it is the left's own bigotry and prejudices which are further being exposed.

It was the comment that Barbara Bush made about blacks in NewOrleans, and George W. Bush's refusal to land in New Orleans when he flew over on his way to a fund raiser in San Diego that was preceived as racist. Had the hurricane hit Hilton Head S.C., I'm sure Air Force One would have made an unexpected, but widely announced landing in the mostly rich white folks beach town.

you have got to be kidding.
that makes the "katrina disaster" racist in nature?

I'm really starting to think these "civil rights" groups who keep screaming racism about everything really are just racist hate groups looking for anything to play the victim too.
This is one thing Obama's presidency has done. It has brought out the real agenda of these farce organizations.

I said it was "perceived" by the public. I don't live there so I can't say what really happened on a local level, but I do believe Bush would have acted differently had it been a wealthy beach town.

There is no way in Hell that anybody, the press included, could have got away with the stuff that is said about Obama if it had been said about Bush while he was president. The reason people think that all this criticism of Obama is racist is because there was hardly any criticism of Bush. So what's different? Bush was a piece of shit as a president and yet Americans were scared shitless to say anything about him.

I agree the divisive race baiting of the left has finally been revealed for what it is, hypocrisy and a very sinister and evil form of racism. If there is one thing Obama's presidency has done it has finally showed that the left has serious issues with racism.

You can't make it a hate crime to murder gays without saying by default that killing heterosexuals is not nearly as bad. This type of thinking can only come from people hopelessly lost in a cobweb of racist/bigot thinking. The same way with legislation that gives special benefits to certain races. It necessarily means you must penalize other races for simply existing.

This stuff is foul, and not moral. The racism on the left makes me angry, because they don't even acknowledge it.

Sorry I was unclear. I meant that events like Katrina bring the racists out of the woodwork (similar to Obama being elected).

Whether it's black racists who say white people bombed the levees (Farrakhan) or anyone who accuses Obama is racist. Or white people who blame all blacks for anything Obama or whine about "losing the country" or who used Katrina as an excuse to go online and call blacks savages on every internet forum etc.

Certain events make racists more vocal (Katrina, Obama elected etc.) but they don't actually create racists, or effect racially the vast majority of the population who isn't racist. (Ex. Max was racist before Obama, but he became more vocal about his views as he got more and more annoyed by a black President).

Limbaugh and his ilk are almost solely responsible for the final abandonment of civil political discourse. But defend the war-hawks by springing to partisan positions if you wish.

I said it before the primary was over and I will say it again. Obama was artificially promoted and elected for this very reason, To divide and to promote racial tensions.

They have been attempting to use race as a distraction, and they have been somewhat successful.
The fact that we are not in a full blown race war if proof that most Americans have come a long way and aren't taking the bait.

I don't think they are done yet though.

Who is dividing and promoting racial tensions? The only tension that I see is on the white people's side, because the blacks I personally know don't say anything. People like Rush Limbaugh are creating racial tension by saying that there is racial tension. That pompus fat ass defended everything Bush did. Obama is not acting like a socialist because he is black, he is acting like a socialist because he is a liberal.

SPLC, ADL, not to mention the Czars and Congress critters that shout racist any time the socialist policies are questioned.
If you question the policy you are racist. :(

Add to that the news media hype.
The man Open Carrying the AR 15 was a Racist redneck, (till it was pointed out that he was black)

Damn Man, I am not going to run down every instance since the election. It is blatant.

Right. I have black neighbors all around me where I live. They don't talk any shit. I am not new to this movement, even though I am new to the forum. Let me ask you torch, why are there hardly any blacks in C4L, which I am a member of? Do only angry white males want liberty and freedom? I could care less what the neocons say about race: I care about what Ron Paul supporters say about minorities, and I'll tell you why. Cause if we don't get 'em on our side you ain't gonna have no "Revolution". We need the numbers. HELLO!!!!

Let me inform you about Louisiana's Libertarian movement.
70% of central committee audiences are dark skinned. half of our LP central committee is dark skinned. Our Vice-Chair is dark skinned.
We don't have a problem with race in central/south louisiana. Only in david duke country(northeast louisiana) is there an issue.
We have all people working together here.
What are you doing wrong in your area?
