Are there normally debates for congressional campaigns? How does this work, and when will it likely happen, if it does?

not till next summer, if we can swing it. Have ideas, but best not to discuss at this time...

Cool man.

Does Lujan have the option to opt out of a debate, or does he have to debate, if challenged?

I get the feeling he doesn't have much principled ground to stand on, and he probably will want to avoid sparring with Adam.

Lujan is not required to debate.

He can't be forced to debate. Chris Peden wanted to debate RP in the primary last year and RP wouldn't. Typically the incumbent will debate if the polls are close.

No1 is correct. Lujan won't debate unless he absolutely thinks its necessary.

Lujan won in 2008 by 57 - 30, with 13% going to a liberal Independent (who likely won't run in 2010).

There is significant ground to cover before Adam can be competitive enough to credibly force a debate.

Kokesh might not ever get to debate his opponent.

The rule in congressional races is never debate your opponent when you're already the incumbent unless you think they have a very legit chance at winning.

If Lujan doesn't see Kokesh as any threat, he'll never debate him.

You may be right, but when BJ Lawson ran for Congress last year, the Democrat incumbent David Price did several debates with him. Hopefully Adam will get a chance to debate his opponent as well, but we'll see.

It they do debate it will be awesome. Adam is a very good public speaker and doesn't come off awkward from what I have seen.

David Price always debates his opponents regardless of where he is in the polls.
