Just wanted to know why RP trusts the GAO so much to conduct this audit. The Fed might not disclose everything, lie about dollar amounts on the audit, bribe the auditors, this all could be a sham audit.

What you say is true; BUT if they actually do that it is FRAUD and it is in writing, up for review and those guilty could be charged and prosecuted. As long as they don't have to "put it in writing" there is no way to verify their claims and no threat of any prosecution. So in short: yes they could cook the books; but people will no doubt investigate and compare the official audit results and if they are playing games, somebody will find something that doesn't add up.
