DeVore for California, the U.S. Senate campaign organization of Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine), issued this statement in response to today's Field Poll on the 2010 U.S. Senate race in California:

"The numbers in today's Field Poll affirm trends we've been aware of throughout the year: Chuck DeVore's support continues to deepen and grow, Carly Fiorina's support continues to drop -- by nearly a third since the last Field Poll in March -- and Barbara Boxer continues to be among the most vulnerable Democrats in the United States Senate.

"When Chuck DeVore announced his candidacy in November 2008, he was a comparatively unknown fiscal-conservative Assemblyman from Orange County, California. Less than a year later, he is at polling parity with a well-known multimillionaire with over a decade of national-press exposure to her credit. When this campaign began, conventional wisdom said that Carly Fiorina was better known, better against Boxer, better able to field a strong campaign team, and better able to unify the party.

"All those beliefs are now discredited by the lackluster performance of the Fiorina 'exploratory' campaign.

"Chuck DeVore has been out with the people of California for months, driving himself from community to community, speaking with them, listening to them, and promising to fight for them. He has been to nearly two hundred campaign events and spoken directly with thousands of Californians. That's one of many reasons his polling parity with Fiorina is such bad news for her. Thousands of Chuck's supporters are supporters because they have seen and spoken with him -- and that's why his numbers steadily rise. By contrast, Carly Fiorina has avoided speaking directly to Republicans, except in rare, private, and stage-managed appearances -- and the occasional online failure of national renown. That's why her numbers steadily drop.

"In other words, the difference between DeVore's support and Fiorina's is the difference between a strong, deep, and growing movement -- and a shallow, media-driven, and purchased ephemera. As this campaign continues, Republicans interested in defeating Barbara Boxer will find the choice between the two increasingly easy."

They should plan a debate between Boxer, Fiorina, and DeVore.
