I wonder how much of that was spent...

I can't believe he made that much.

Link?

I saw an article that speculated he had raised that much but nothing official.

Neither can I...

But I'm positive his cash on hand is in the negatives.

So when RP reports raising more than McCain, AND having more cash on hand, will the media adjust their bogus 'tiers'?

Somehow, I have my doubts.

"Sen. John McCain of Arizona is expected to show he raised more than $5 million this quarter but a McCain adviser told CNN that the McCain's recent poll numbers in New Hampshire and a busy fundraising schedule next month show that they "have some life." McCain raised $24.5 million the first two quarters of the year but spent nearly all of the funds raised."

That's the article I saw. They aren't saying that he raised that much though, only that it is "expected".

Well, I was watching CNN this morning and they said they confirmed it with the campaign.

I figured that might have been the case. I would imagine it will show up on their website shortly then.

Everyone should send a quick note to the McCain campaign and tell him to stick it out (since we need him to dilute the neo-con vote--but don't mention that part ;))! :D

the reason they're not talking about Ron Paul is.... well, the MSM doesn't look him up, they will only find out about his success after they read about it in blogs

Pro-war sinners need to shell out cash to keep people convinced that the war was a good idea.

Dean went into the Iowa caucuses with 40 million and he was broke by the New Hampshire primaries.

Adjust for inflation, it will be 10 million by 2008 at this rate, and our Meetup army will still be our meetup army.

Yeah, it was like he was riding on the Coors Lite train and it suddenly derailed.

Considering McCain raised $24.5 million the first two quarters (and spent $22 million like a drunken sailor on private jets and Lord knows what else), $5 million is actually pretty lame. It shows his campaign is going in the wrong direction while the RP campaign makes more money in the 3rd quarter than the 2nd, with the 3rd quarter being thr toughest fundraising quarter with most candidates raising less in the 3rd than 2nd.

The really big story would be if RP was the only candidate to rasie more 3Q than 2Q. That would REALLY show momentum.

Well .... how can we translate the grassroots for maximum effectiveness? Unfortunately, every state is different and Ron Paul has different competitors. For example in Michigan Romney is the front runner, McCain (oddly enough), then Ron Paul, then the rest.

When do we find out? Will it be after the 15th when the FEC papers are due?

We'll find out by then at the latest, but the campaigns will likely volunteer the information in the next few days.

Everybody gripes and bitches about Ron Paul's Campaign not doing enough. Well, he's running this campaign like a Fox (technically part of the feline species), unlike Fred (part of a protected species)... Have patience, and donate your hard-earned to a man who will not blow 24 million in the first 2 quarters as McCain did... Ron Paul will use every dollar contributed wisely... Isn't it comforting to know your donations are respected and not wasted?

Millions spent on wank. Typical of government waste. My donations will be treated respectfully.

Howard Dean blew 40+ million when he was running in the primaries. And that happened in like a month. Answer: Washington strategists/staff are expensive. Ron has people who actually believe in his message. Notice how people jump ship on the "top tier" candidates' campaigns when things start to go south. Example: McCain so far

New polls in NH show that over 60% are not happy with the candidate they picked in the poll. Lots of room for Paul to move up

Please not that McCain beat Paul in fundraising last quarter. We simple had more in the bank. I anticipate our funds will match John McCains and again we will have a couple more million in the bank as our debt will likely be $0 whereas McCains debt will be in the millions.

Here's all the candidate's 2nd quarter results. (http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/index.asp?cycle=2008)

McCain raised $11,591,044 last quarter. With all his free press, and taking money from special interest groups, $5 million is a huge loss for him.

People who are shocked McCain raised this much need to examine the situation more closely.

$5 million raised is pathetic by frontrunner standards and represents a significant dropoff from previous quarters.

The only reason we are hearing about this result now is so the McCain camp can soften the blow of this news coming out on the 13th.

It's all about managing expectations, and this will look very bad when compared against the other candidates when all totals are revealed.

I'm encouraged that the Paul camp is not yet revealing numbers.

Don't worry - they'll spend all that in the Primaries, before Hillary meets RP in the general election.
