I followed this up, and here are important things that are only showing up in the comments section (not that it should surprise us).

The shooter was her husband. So the "nutcase open-carry" lady is not a nutcase. Her husband was.
Her husband was not living with her at the time and was not expected at their house.

Also, it appears her husband was in law enforcement.

I don't think anyone should be surprised that this information isn't in the body of any of the articles I can find on this.

Headline is wrong.
It should be,
Wacked out Cop shoots Open Carry Advocate.

Neighbours told the Lebanon Daily News that they saw the couple's three children running from the house and screaming “Daddy shot Mommy!” shortly before the emergency services were alerted at 6.20pm.

Scott Hain worked as a parole officer in neighboring Berks County, the News reported. He was formerly a guard at the Camp Hill state prison, according to the newspaper.

Was she shot in his capacity as a cop? Was he there on official police business? Or was it personal? "Wacked Out Cop" is an even more misleading headline.

It was personal. Murder suicide. And he was actually a Parole Officer and Former Prison Guard.
The fictitious headline is no more misleading than the many being used.

Gun-toting Pa. soccer mom, husband found shot dead
Glock-toting Amish country soccer mom shot dead
Lebanon Woman Known as Pistol Packin' Soccer Mom Found Dead
Woman wants to bring gun to kiddo's soccer game
Pistol-packing soccer mom, husband killed

Seeing any pattern here?
No "Husband shoots wife in apparent murder suicide".
Or,"Parole Officer and wife found dead in apparent murder suicide."
The only mention that he was LEO is a small line in the story.
But the focus is on her being an Open Carry Advocate.

Yep. Liberal Media Bias at it's finest.

Cops: Husband shot soccer mom as she chatted on webcam

Meleanie Hain was shot several times with a 9 mm handgun, police said. Her fully loaded 9 mm handgun was found in her backpack hanging on the back of the front door.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/33245133/ns/us_news-crime_and_courts/

Officials on Friday said her gun was in a backpack when she was killed. Scott Hain, a parole officer, owned the 9 mm handgun he used to kill her.

Meleanie Hain always carried her holstered 9mm Glock pistol, even to the grocery store, and was holding a rifle while she talked to someone outside her house last week, Fortna said.

Sad.
She let her guard down at home.
Shot in the back by a coward. :(

Probably premeditated.
