another great thing about a Ron Paul presidency would be the quality of the appointees to the supreme court.

Fun to think about. But can't count on it. John Paul Stevens was born in 1920, but he might just pull a Strom Thurmond and stay in office forever. The next oldest, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, was born in 1933 and so is relatively young.]

Who do you think he might nominate?

Napalitano for Chief Justice

Uh, Roberts is only like not even 53... so, the Chief Justice seat won't be open of a loooong time. :(

Napolitano would be a great Associate Justice and valuable opinion on the court, however. :D

I know it's a pipe dream, but it's still fun to think about.

Lew Rockwell.

Lew worked for Ron in the 70's and 80's though, it would be like appointing Harriet Miers was for Bush: Cronyism.

Janice Rogers Brown seems like a good choice.

What if the President just decided to replace all the judges?

That would be unconstitutional. FDR ran into a recalcitrant supreme court when
he tried to get the "new deal" pushed through. Since the SCOTUS kept declaring his programs unconstitutional he threatened to do something that was, more than double the size of the SCOTUS (the constitution does not say how many justices there must be). Since he would have been able to appoint a majority of judges it would have changed their outlook.

The plan raised alot of protest and was abandoned, but the sitting members of the Court got the message and did not declare any more new deal legislation unconstitutional.
