Today, David Hanson published a tongue-in-cheek open letter to Michael Moore in light of his new film "Capitalism: A Love Story." The article uses Austrian economics to debunk Mr. Moore's critique of capitalism. And the article leaves off with this challenge we in the liberty movement should spread across our circles of influence:
So I have a challenge for you, Mr. Moore. Either use your considerable clout to expose the real threat to American equality and prosperity – government corporatism – or, as the old proverb says, put your money where your mouth is: Show the world how socialism works.
Your past films have grossed in excess of $300 million and established your eight-digit net worth. And your newest release is sure to make you millions more. Fix that. Distribute all profits from "Capitalism: A Love Story" equally among every worker involved in its production. Instead of taking the director/producer's portion, I call on you and your producers to stand fast against the wiles of capitalism. After all, why should you, the director, profit any more than your studio custodian? Why should you receive more money than Carlye Rubin, the film's location fixer? How about your footage researcher, Kate Coe? Who exactly determines your value, anyway? I'm sure many of your staff could use the film profits more than you. Please don't let greed stop you from this momentous opportunity.
In these perilous economic times, Americans can't take much more, Michael. Make your move.
