Empire State Building Lights Up Protestors (http://www.jbs.org/jbs-news-feed/5443-empire-state-building-lights-up-protestors)

Since the White House venue didn’t work out so well, the Communist China regime found a sympathetic ear in those who manage the Empire State Building, because it is they who granted permission to flood the ESB in red and yellow for the 60th anniversary (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,557823,00.html?loomia_ow=t0:s0:a16:g2:r4:c0 .085371:b28033042:z0) of the most brutal regime in modern times. The colors signify the yellow of the stars and the background color of the Red Chinese flag.

But using an American icon such as the ESB to “celebrate” the deaths of millions upon millions upon millions, by a regime that today is still oppressive and inhumane as it was in its inception, has brought protests and plenty of outrage.

Arthur Waldron, a history professor at the University of Pennsylvania, said, "China gets treatment that other dictatorships can only dream of — a free pass on human rights," because even by conservative estimates, the Chinese revolution and it’s aftermath caused the deaths of 72 million people.

New York Representative Anthony Weiner said China, “was an oppressive regime” with a “shameful history on human rights,” and in no way should be honored with such a celebration. Rep. Peter King (R-Long Island) called it a “sad day.” Lhadon Tethong from the Students for a Free Tibet commented, “It’s a great public relations coup for the Chinese state.”

There were some very sarcastic comments posted on various forums and chats, and even online and print publications got in on the act.

The Buffalohair Gazette International entitled their piece (http://buffalohair.wordpress.com/2009/09/29/empire-state-building-drenched-in-blood/) on the subject, “Empire State Building, Drenched in Blood,” accompanied by graphic pictures of tortured and murdered victims of the Chinese state. The author said, “I find this most appropriate since red will represent the blood of the millions of innocent people China has murdered or thrown in their gulag System. The yellow will represent the cowardly conduct of a nation who has chosen to rape and murder Falun Gong members as well as the Uyghur People of Turkistan.”

Over at The American Mind, Sean Hackbarth blogged (http://www.theamericanmind.com/2009/09/28/empire-state-building-honoring-communist-china/), “I wish I could make this stuff up. Hey, let’s celebrate the ‘Cultural Revolution’ while we’re at it.” Blogger Weaselzippers said (http://www.weaselzippers.net/blog/2009/09/empire-state-building-will-light-up-redyellow-to-celebrate-60th-anniversary-of-maos-communist-takeov.html), “Mao’s only responsible for killing 30 million people through various political purges, what’s not to celebrate?” While Andrew Roman at Roman Around (http://andrewroman.net/2009/09/29/are-you-kidding-me/) from his “I’m Sorry, I Must Be Missing Something File,” posted:

What better use of one of the world’s most recognizable structures, which oddly enough sits in the heart of Capitalist New York, than to honor a nation that killed tens of millions of its own people?...

Perhaps the Empire State building will someday illuminate its upper portion in a charcoal grey light to commemorate and represent the rotting corpses of the dead of communist China.

Tim Perkins had this to say (http://www.timperkins.me/2009/09/yellow-red-empire-state-building-to.html) on his blog:

Hey, ESB, why don’t you light up every other window in pink and blue for the helpless girls and boys aborted in accordance with china’s one couple, on child policy (since there are not enough lights to extinguish on behalf of the approx. 250 Million babies [forced] aborted in China since 1980.) And then maybe leave a few hundred lights out to commemorate the hundreds of students who lost their lives fighting for a democratic China. That would be a statement that all Americans would get behind.

Of course, there are always those whose personal political views might allow them to enter into the joie de vivre exhibited by the Counsul General of the People’s Republic, Peng Keyu, who got to flip the switch that illuminated the ESB, and said he was “happy” to see this day come.

An op-ed column on September 8 by the New York Times by Thomas Friedman (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/09/opinion/09friedman.html?_r=4) blatantly exalted the virtues of the communist country calling the leaders of China a “reasonably enlightened group of people.” Friedman believes that the communists’ “one-party autocracy” is preferable to a “one-party democracy,” which, he says, is what we have today in America. Because, Friedman added, the one-party autocracy, “can just impose the politically difficult but critically important policies needed to move a society forward in the 21st century.”

That type of mentality is what has led to America’s iconic building being the centerpiece for a Communist propaganda spin moment.

While it’s true that the ESB is privately owned, and that the United States is financially indebted to China — which may have had something to do with this latest display — most people have either lost their sense of right and wrong, or they simply don’t know or remember recent history. The rest could just be communists at heart.

Illuminating the ESB for various holidays and celebrations has certainly lost its luster, as well as any meaning behind the colors of the spectrum they will use in the future.

Its a privately owned building who cares what they do with it ?

Don't rent office space from them.

when they cant rent out there office space they lose money.

When they lose money they will rethink how they run the Building.

I don't have a problem with it.

If the ESB wants to take China's money to flick on a few lights, who cares?

Probably good to see money flowing from China to the USA for once, instead of the other way around.
