View Full Version : I won't donate without some people matching me

I mentioned this in a couple other threads over the past couple days. It will hurt me a bit to donate another $50, and I frankly don't know if it will help the campaign as much as it will hurt me, especially if they end up not making that million $ quarter anyway.

But that $50 that I may ore may not donate will make a bigger difference if I give $50 but the campaign gets, say, $1000 for it, by way of a bunch of you who feel the same way joining me. I bet we can make enough of a difference with what we can scrap together between us to make it worth it for us to make that last sacrifice.

So who's with me? Who will pitch in a bit more than they've already donated if it can be a part of a cumulative effort that makes a noticeable difference?

I won't donate unless a bunch of you join me. Once there's a solid group (if there is at all), then maybe we can pick a time to pull the trigger and all donate at once.

I'm pretty sure that everybody here that can donate has/will donate.
I'd suggest going out and foraging for donors on other sites or offline even.

Oh, ok. Never mind. Specs has spoken on behalf of the whole board. I guess I'll put that 50 toward something else. Unless, of course, Specs' tin foil hat doesn't give him psychic powers and there's anyone else here who wants to join me.

Don't be douchey. I made what I think is a valid point. We have dozens of donate now threads. I'm pretty sure everybody here has gotten the message. Have you attempted to reach out and find that $1000 elsewhere? You might have better luck.

For example, I've been working on 3 different people not on rpfs trying to twist their arms.

Whether or not I'm doing something like this elsewhere at the same time as doing it here is beside the point and not your business. But I am doing it here. If people from here join me I'll donate, if they don't I won't. And like you said, this is hardly the only thread trying to drum up more Rand donations here. Perhaps you can join Disorderlyvision and start a special discouragement thread somewhere else to talk about how we shouldn't do this, rather than put that kind of message here.

But for everyone else, who wants to match me?

erowe1
09-30-2009, 12:37 PM
Also, I just threw out the number 1,000. If we get a good group and it's less than that, I'm still in. I don't know my minimum. I figure whatever our minimum is can be subject to negotiation.

I'll donate 25 if we reach 1,000 pledged in this thread

Where's Krippy? I know he said earlier he was waiting for a matching thread.

Someone wanna combine with my $25 to get a full $50?

Austin
09-30-2009, 01:07 PM
I'll donate $25, regardless of the amount that is pledged. So yeah, Brett, I'll take you up on that offer.

erowe1
09-30-2009, 01:11 PM
That brings us to a possible $125. Who else is in? If we get 5 more for $25, 3 more for $50, and 1 for $100, that will bring us up to $500 total.

AARRRGGGHHHHH!!!

You guys are KILLING me!

Okay... Okay... I'm gonna have to sell blood or something, and for God's sake nobody tell my wife!! But I'm going to toss in another $100 I can't really afford.

This is a "good faith" contribution. No matter how much, or how little, the rest of this thread raises in pledges, I would ask, beg, and cajole each of you who have pledged or even *thought* about pledging to go ahead and toss in the cash.

If there was ever a time to redouble our efforts and make sure we give Rand the best boost we can, now's the time.

My contribution from about five minutes ago:

Thank you for your donation.

OK, counting the 2 $100 donations that brings us to $345.27.

That's a nice chunk of change. Any other fence sitters out there who want in on this?

Wanna make that $19.73 then? That way 19.73+20.27=$40.00

I would but Rand site doesn't accept cents. I found that out when I tried to donate $17.76. It rounds down to the dollar (which I think is silly, he should take every penny).

Alright, well in that case it will round off the other odd donation, so we're still at $365.

Anybody want in for $35 to make it $400 for the thread?

For those in this thread who haven't made their pledged donations yet, what do you think about timing it so that we are the donors who push him past $1,100,000? That way we'll have the psychological effect of seeing the tangible difference we made, it will (probably) give us enough time for some others to join us, and it will give them an incentive to be a part of it.

I guess now all you can do is find ANOTHER donor to make the count even as your previous pledge, pledged a different amount.

Was that in lieu of your 20.27 donation or in addition to it? Also, how did you do that? The other person here said they don't let you.

MAGIC......

Actually when I donated the Rand Paul website said thanks for your $22 donation but they charged my CC the amount I put in the box..... I don't know what the issue is.

It is in Lieu of..... However we can't have everyone breaking their commitments here;) So you must do the math on that other persons previous commitment. PLUS my changed donation as I broke my commitment. Then figure out how to make it even.....

Don't be mad at me, I did not make the it must be even rule....

P.S. get back with me once you guys are close to the goal so I can eff it all up again with an oddball donation..... I'm bored and am amused by simple things what can I sa............ Hey look a shiny object

It's ok. It doesn't really matter if it's even. As long as people donate as much or more than they pledge according to whatever conditions they said when they made the pledge.

Sorry folks. I had to go tutor a kid and it took a long time. I guess the only thing to do now is fire away whenever you want!

Sorry I wasn't here to help coordinate a special time. I'm going to donate my 50 now. I don't know what the final tally of the thread is, but I'm guessing around 500.

Everyone who pledged, unless they said they'd only do it if it reached 1,000, must donate at least their pledged amount.

Yeah but the honest truth is that was TN HQ for the RP'08 campaign. The parking lot next door belonged to the dentist there. Our HQ was on Music Row in downtown Nashville so our building had a total of 4 parking spaces. And in order to respect the property rights of our neighbor, we just told everyone to park on the grass. :)
