View Full Version : U.S. War Flag Vs. Peace Flag? (Video)

I came across a video of a little girl who wouldn't pledge her allegiance to the U.S. flag because it stood for war. This raised a couple of questions with me as this is something that I've been pondering for a while.
My question is these:
1.) What would happen if I were to to fly a civil (Peace) flag at my home?
2.) Where could I get a civil (peace) flag? (I intend to search as soon as I'm done with this post, but I expect to come up empty on this.)
I was surprised to find that (apparently) no one flew flags before the Civil War. From old political cartoons that I've seen I sort of thought the opposite.
I found this webpage which explains both flags:

Ya, I used to have the "Civil Flag" as my avatar here. Should be able to do a search of RPFs, I think it has been discussed before. US Customs posts used to fly the Civil Flag. There are controversies (conspiracy theories?) about the proper US flag in proportions, gold fringe and adornments, like the Eagle on top of the pole (usually reserved for the Executive Branch).

I believe (after reading a little more) that the proper terms are military and civil flags.
I did post a link to an explanation in the beginning post but you probably didn't notice it with all the other stuff.
I also found a lot more and this one seems pretty informative:

It is nice to see a young person taking a stand, but really I don't see that any child should have to say a pledge of allegiance to any flag "war" or "peace". To me it makes no sense that anyone would pledge allegiance to a flag period. Or for that matter, to take a forced pledge of allegiance mandated by the Federal Government, regardless if a flag is present.

I seem to recall some research which showed the State flags flying higher than the national flag prior to 1933. However the national flag had horizintal bars. The civil flag is old news here.

I wish the people spreading this civil flag (so called) around as truth would actually research the shit and back the claim up on something real....
Try this link out...

Exactly.... there is no such thing as a Civil Flag of the United States. It's a stupid myth made up by those who want to sell a stupid flag.

Mods need to edit the title of these civil flag threads to discredit the notion of it.
It's an insult to the intelligence of this forum to pander such an undocumented claim.
Thank you both for the informative link. I really appreciate it.
I had heard about this flag in the past but, apparently, missed the previous conversations about it being false. I must admit that I found a lot more websites touting the "civil flag" existence (one being a site that sold Ron Paul 2008 items.) This is the first that I've heard that it wasn't true.
I'm certainly not trying to promote a false concept and I really appreciate the truth. Actually, I posted here because I knew that I could get some educated and honest replies.
I must say that I'm disappointed that this isn't true.
Please feel free to edit the title to one that doesn't promote a falsehood.
Regards,
Tim
