It's hard to say what happened. Could have been all those donbots that kept spamming the donations. :)

My bet is it was simply too much traffic. I'm not sure if others notice but I think the meter updates less often now. That's a sure sign that it was causing too much traffic.

If the site was under a truly serious attack it wouldn't have been up so quickly. Heck, the Russion mob took down an entire country once. If people want you down you're going down, unless you have HUGE amounts of money like Google or something.
