Not one damn blog post, or "diary" as they call it that I can find. Nothing but crickets on Obama's promise to extend the unconstitutional patriot act that they protested for 8 years. This should be the number one story over there, because it is just another broken promise, and it is a major one.

Nope, instead there is nothing but hate filled posts about "teabaggers" " 9/12ers" as being racists, terrorists etc.

Does anyone have an account over there? Someone needs to point out their hypocrisy. What is this mental disease that makes people go insane when their team is in power? Is it the ego that supercedes everything else?

Did Maddow say anything about it?

I will say that I HAVE seen some expressions of disappointment on this one issue at one site I read.

That said, I remain utterly disgusted with them for their anti-war posturing during the campaign which they dropped as soon as BO won.

I keep trying to bring it up over at HuffPost and they completely skirt around it. Blaming Bush for it but not answering why BO is extending it. And when you ask them if they support it- silence.

That's because they ARE part of the system.

Kos is totally hooked-in to Silicon Valley Military Industrial Complex mover and shakers... and wasn't his dad CIA?

The story finally made it to HP and in the comments some are justifying, some are not, but it's not nearly as commented on as some of the various Kanye/Joe Wilson threads. Hundreds of comments vs. thousands.

Either most don't want to address it or HP never gave the article prime placement. Or both.

Obama planning to extend the Patriot Act is a complete embarrassment to the left wingers and they are trying to ignore the issue. This, and the wars, I believe, is Obama's Achilles heel and is something we liberty lovers should exploit and bring to their attention constantly until they realize Obama is a fraud or until Obama does the right thing and stops the wars and the Patriot Act. These are issues we can make a positive impact on now if we educate them daily about it.

Oh I see. Well that makes it OK for Obama to spy on his own countrymen after he said he'd get rid of that kind of shit.

Yes... I can now understand why Progressives, the same people that had marches across the entire nation to protest this sort of shit now turn a blind eye. It must be embarrassing for them.... realizing they voted for a younger George Bush. Becuase I heard them cry along with the rest of us when Bush Bailed out Wall Street. But I never heard a whimper when Obama did the EXACT SAME THING, TWICE. I didn't hear a whimper when he authorized bombings in Pakistan either, nor have I heard the moral outrage when he expanded the "war on terror".

My my, what great changes were made. This is the man they put their hope in.... I'd probably shut my mouth also. Just ignore it and it will go away. Things like this tend to damage their self-perceived intellectual superiority. They put so much stock in one guy they thought was the messiah, then they found out he's just a mess. Progressives are not the smartest peanut in the turd, they are the turd.

This is it. They are starting to realize that in terms of foreign policy and civil liberties, he is not bringing any change and they are starting to see the emperor has no clothes. We should capitalize on this and educate them and teach to think for themselves and not toe the party line and be spoon fed what to think.

Absolutely.

When I post on these articles, I always make mention of several things:

1. the fact that it is not Obama alone who determines whether he is or isn't a great president, it is the people--and he should be pressured to do the right thing, not trusted to do so.

2. The right wing made the mistake of trusting Bush so much that they did not protest or even notice when he was doing things antithetical to their beliefs.

3. Obama is a Constitutional "scholar," it is unacceptable that a brilliant guy like him would support such obviously unconstitutional measures.

4. The next president might not be as great of a guy as Obama, imagine if Cheney is the president and he has these powers.

While these comments don't accurately reflect what I truly think about Obama, nobody will listen if I say "that socialist pig Barry Soetero totally pwned you foolz!" And I don't actually hate Obama anyways, just like Bush, he's another figurehead.

And we should point it out to them. They are for the most part good-natured people who want peace and prosperity but have unfortunately been conned by those who have corrupted our government. We should reach out to them as fellow patriots and concerned citizens, constantly pointing out to them the hypocrisy and deceit and theft in Washington.

Well said. Showing personal animosity to the president is counter-productive. I want him to do well by doing good things such as ending the Patriot Act, ending the wars, auditing the fed, etc etc. We can debate and argue on economic policies and the role of government, but we should do so always on the side of liberty and on freedom. People will come around.

Obviously not, they seem to love the idea of universal healthcare as well. A goverment mandate that will require everyone to be on an insurance whether you like it or not. You have no choice, but that's cool pres Obama!

Pretty much. Just like Bush's "good old boy" attitude charmed the conservative base, Obama's "grace" charms the liberal base and Sean Penn. Still, when it comes to the Patriot Act and such, I cannot believe so many liberals believe the problem is the figurehead in power rather than the policy itself.

Oh man I should have said "Holding doesn't count when it's the Pats" lol. I have a strong suspicion that everyone except the NFL and their own fans hate the Pats. That goes double for me as a Rams fan. I was so fucking happy when they lost the Superbowl to the Giants.

Apparently, most of the "institutional" left has been coopted by Obama. If you read the following, you will see that, once again, it pays to "follow the money":

Van Jones: A Moment of Truth For Liberal Institutions in the Veal Pen (http://campaignsilo.firedoglake.com/2009/09/06/van-jones-a-moment-of-truth-for-liberal-institutions-in-the-veal-pen/)

OpenLeft.com is pretty good, in terms of being about principles over partisanship ( = democrats) . Although I don't think any of the front pagers discussed the extension of the patriot Act (maybe David Sirota did, I'm not sure, though), you can see a regular there putting in a pretty good whack at Obama, just recently:

Obama orders a man to be killed (http://openleft.com/viewQuickHits.do#10910)

Another regular, Jacob Freeze, (who was banned for a while), recently posted (http://www.openleft.com/diary/15099/84-of-democrats-approve-of-barack-obamas-performance):

84% of Democrats Approve of Barack Obama's "Performance"
by: Jacob Freeze
Mon Sep 14, 2009 at 17:50

84% of Democrats approve of Barack Obama's "performance" as President of the United States, according to the most recent Rasmussen tracking poll.

And exactly what are 84% of Democrats approving?

84% of Democrats approve of burning 100 Afghan civilians to death in Kunduz.

84% of Democrats approve of killing 95 Afghan children in Farah.

84% of Democrats approve of long-term unemployment and destitution for millions of Americans.

84% of Democrats approve of $23.7 trillion in guaranteed loans for criminal bankers.

84% of Democrats approve of Obama's flipflop about tax-cuts for billionaires.

84% of Democrats approve of Obama's flipflop about NAFTA.

84% of Democrats approve of Obama's flipflop about the Employee Free Choice Act.

84% of Democrats approve of huge cash outlays to mortgage bankers...

The outlay has already reached about $1 trillion over the past year and is rising. During that time, the government has pumped more money into the mortgage market than has been spent on Medicare or Social Security or the defense budget...

...while hundreds of thousands of homeowners are still foreclosed every month, and in August 2009, there was "a record high number of properties either entering default or being scheduled for a public foreclosure auction for the first time," and...

Payrolls bled out another 216,000 jobs in August, and...

84% of Democrats approve!

But anybody who saw the President's speech on TV last Wednesday night would have to agree...

Obama gave a heckuva "performance."

DemocraticUnderground.com allows serious criticism of Obama. David Swanson posts diaries, there, and Chris Hedges (http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x6549088) often gets quoted.
