"The Photographer’s Right is a downloadable guide that is loosely based on the Bust Card and the Know Your Rights pamphlet that used to be available on the ACLU website. It may be downloaded and printed out using Adobe Acrobat Reader. You may make copies and carry them your wallet, pocket, or camera bag to give you quick access to your rights and obligations concerning confrontations over photography."

As a photographer, thank you for the info and link. I have been asked not to take photos at a shopping mall (considered private property although it is freely accessable to the public- but what are they afraid of- somebody stealing the idea of how their mall is designed? I don't get that one) than I have been taking pictures of security checks at the airports I have used. I would suggest to anybody to always use discression. If somebody asks you to stop taking pictures of something, it is a good idea to stop shooting. If somebody with a gun asks you to hand over your film (memory card) complying is probably another good idea (unless you can somehow swap a card and give him a blank one).

The link does say it is OK to photograph children- but that may be illegal or unwise in some places since someone may think you are a pervert or child molester. Just use good judgement.

good info, but what if the person harrassing you is the cops? this was written from the perspective that the cops will help you. i've had a few situations where its the cops that are trying to keep me from filming and photography. i've got a gem on video this weekend of a cop trying to tell me i have to show ID when he asks. i'll get it up asap
