A big part of the Fair Tax is that you receive a refund check every month based on what the tax on the money you would spend that is below the Poverty Level.

Consider this:

New census figures Thursday are expected to show that the poverty rate rose in 2008. But the government still measures poverty the same way it did more than 40 years ago, and many experts think that gives an inaccurate measure of what's going on.
New York City developed a new measure last year based on recommendations by the National Academy of Sciences that takes into account expenses such as child care and health care costs. The result, according to backers of the new formula, is a more realistic picture of today's world. They're pushing the federal government to make a similar change.

Basically, the government will be able to use the "poverty level formula" as a back door into doing the same stuff they do right now. Energy companies lobbying for gas and electricity costs to be estimated into the poverty level, health care lobbyists pushing for health care costs to go into the formula, giving larger redistribution checks each month to everyone in the name of those institutions. "Thanks Enron for the extra $30 per month".

Once people are able to vote in people who will promise to raise their monthly checks, the game is over...redistribution of wealth is simplified.

The best tax is NO TAX.

All the fair tax really boils down to is when people want the Federal Government to take their money. Immediately, or the minute a purchase is made.

Not good--have to reconsider my support of this idea.
