View Full Version : You Lie! - A missed opportunity for Pelosi

After tonite's outburst by the Rep from SC and a few moments had passed

Imagine if Pelosi had leaned forward and claimed a procedural point of order and said "Please, wait Mr President"

Then stood up, banged her gavel, and called the gentleman out of order and said "Please exit these chambers" and folded her arms

No one would have stood with him and we would have a very interesting moment where he probably would have left

Then Pelosi could have banged the gavel again and said "Please continue Mr President"

I am no fan of Pelosi but if she would have had the presence of mind to do something like that I would have a lot more respect for her knowing her job in the House.

Perhaps it would have been Biden's job - who knows about those procedural things???

But wouldn't have that been a great moment to watch???

No, it wouldn't. That Congressman was right to call Obama on his deceit. What was great, was watching Speaker Pelosi's reaction.

If there isn't unanimous consent, she can't start kicking people out. If even one Republican would have agreed with him, they would have had to have a vote. That would have been the most embarrassing thing ever and would make her/Democrats look like crap.

+1776! What's with some of you people? Our country is being flushed down the crapper, the congress has been abdicating its oversight responsibilities for decades, a "cap and trade" bill passed the house which will destroy what's left of our economy if it gets though the senate, and Obama is trying to force a $2K healthcare "mandate" on people who don't want it and you're upset because someone was disrespectful to lord Obama?

no i totally understand that

BUUUUUUTTTT....

if she would have had the cajones to do it because it was unprecendented i bet nobody would have noticed it or been too scared to challenge her (not a lot of courage in that room)

the next day there would be monday morning quarterbacking shooting her down but her standing up for the OFFICE of the PREZ as an idea would have been a feather in her cap

would have beat the open mouth "huh?" she had anyway

did you notice the hand written sign too??? is that proper protocol in the house????

and not sure why i am rooting for pelosi - sheesh its the swine flu or something...

just thought that would have been great TV although bad politics (yeah i know, thats redundant)

believe me i aint upset about his speaking up

i have always thought it would be very effective for a member to simply stand for 15 seconds and then walk out

no words said or needed then

just watched too much rasslin' as a kid to let a good comeback opportunity to slip by

reminds me of the shouting in idiocracy movie

The Republicans would have. They know the rules and they would have loved the chance to make her look like a fool in front of the entire country. The entire Democratic party could have come down earlier tonight if it were for that. All he logically needs is one friend of his to stand up when she says "Is there unanimous consent?" If a buddy of his does, then it doesn't go into effect or it is voted on.

Some fun videos on how the Republicans will stand up to the overwhelming Democratic majority:

wow, good stuff there

imagine if THAT would have happened

then the REPUBS would look strong but then could the DEMS counter with a winning vote and kick him out

ha ha - i'm just being goofy everyone - gotta stop switching between CSPAN and WWE

anyway I hope this little event provides a good window to the media to discuss the difference between the PREZ (the man) versus PREZ (the office)

apparently its OK to call the President names all over the place some which are vile and repulsive but you can't say anything to his face when he is speaking

and for the record, i bet obama was right for this moment but the SC gentlemen knew it would expand eventually

It would have been awesome had the vote actually happened. The majority of the people watching have likely never seen a legit vote. I pray the entire debate won't be focused around him now. The best thing we can hope for is that the media latches on to the illegal immigrants getting free care thing and they find out the truth.

Oh me and my dreams...

no i think the media needs to get back on message

cnn, msnbc, etc have it all low key

while its front page on drudge

i guess we will see if it has legs when talk radio has its say tomorrow

hopefully it will be chalked up to human nature and the debate (if that's what you call it) can continue

It seems like you and I are living in the same dream world. Ah well, it's better than the "real" alternative.

It shouldn't even be a question of decorum.

Challenge the Congressman to show where it is in the bill. If it is there, then Obama is a liar, no apology necessary and no one can deny that he was either a liar or was stating as fact something he did not know.

if the congressman cannot quote chapter and verse where the illegals are going to be covered, then he deserves to look like an ass and I would even say some type of censure for his outburst is in order.

and i think the author above wins the discussion

nicely done

You do realize Nancy Pelosi is the woman accusing Town hallers of wearing swastikas, right? Shes the biggest Socialist in Congress.

And if she can't even handle town hall protestors without resorting to "they're nazis!11!!!" then I seriously doubt she could argue with a congressman in front of the whole country.

But wouldn't have that been a great moment to watch???

No, it would've been embarassing for the dems. If illegals are on welfare & are screwing up our hospitals as it is, then its a joke to think a socialist system wouldn't have to pay for them.

Right. Also, Soetoro could have taken him to the cleaners if he were better at thinking on his feet. Another missed opportunity. I still found the incident highly entertaining.
