BERLIN, Sept 9 (Reuters) - The uproar over a deadly NATO air strike in Afghanistan has shaken Chancellor Angela Merkel's government weeks before an election and could herald an erosion in Germany's support for the mission after the federal vote.

All of the major German parties, except the far-left "Linke", or Left party, support the deployment in Afghanistan, and because of that, analysts say it is unlikely the issue will have a major impact on the results of the Sept. 27 election.

But this would mean support for Republicans in US would dip even lower since they are supporting Obama's policies.

Poll: Obama's Ratings on Afghanistan Drop

CBS News Survey Finds Support for War Continuing to Fall; Half Of Public Supports CIA Interrogations Probe

(CBS) The public remains negative about U.S. progress in Afghanistan. As they have for months, most Americans say the war there is going badly, according to a CBS News poll released Tuesday.

Four in 10 now say they want U.S. troop levels in Afghanistan decreased, a percentage which has been rising since the beginning of 2009. In addition, President Obama's approval rating on handling Afghanistan has dropped eight points since April.

No. It won't have any impact whatsoever on American politics. Americans don't hear about or see the videos of mutilated children and soldiers. They learned that lesson in 'Nam. "What people don't know, can't see, or aren't able to understand - can't make them outraged."

This goes for war, the financial crisis, and nearly every major issue for that matter.

What should we attribute this to then:

President Obama's approval rating on handling Afghanistan has dropped eight points since April.

I see your point on media sanitizing bloodshed to support its political favortites though.
