U.S. Congressman Ron Paul spoke to an almost-capacity crowd at a town hall meeting Friday, Aug. 28 at the Saltwater Pavilion.
Paul was introduced by State Rep. Todd Hunter.
The congressman began by discussing some of his background, including his time as a physician before running for political office in the 1970s.
As a former practicing physician, Paul is against government- driven healthcare.
He also talked about how the government is living beyond its means, and how the issue of printing more money is not the answer.
Paul said too many elected officials do not take their oaths of office seriously, adding the purpose of political office is to “protect our liberty.”
He said, “The government can not take care of us. We’ve exhausted the wealth in this country.”
Redistribution of wealth is not what should be done, Paul said.
He also talked about how our freedom is being challenged and we must do all we can to protect it.
After his speech, the floor was opened to questions from the audience which ranged from asking about Paul’s stance on national defense, and his stand on the fight against Islamic extemists.
One asked about how he feels about Eric Holder about going after CIA operatives, and another asked about the U.S. foreign policy.
After which he met and mingled with those present.
