Yes, but other presidents didn't want to set up an Obama youth corp., instill MANDATORY "volunteer" (sic) service or distribute lesson plans for the kids to write how best they could help the president.

You can bet your bottom dollar that had there not been backlash, Tuesdays speech would have been a LOT different and have little to do with studying hard and getting good grades.

Doesn't matter - kids are being taught when they are young that presidents are to be looked up to as authority figures.

I don't really get what the big deal is. If he's saying work hard and stay in school, there is no harm. Let's wait and see if he pushes his ideas on kids before we complain about him doing that. From everything I've read about the speech, it is going to be about the importance of education, not health care.
