Uh, I just saw a recent contributor on Paul's donation graphic named "Phony Soldier" from Haskell, OK. Is this a fake contribution, and is it legal?

I saw it too. It could be a guy named Phony Soldier.

They say RP supporters are freaks, they might as well have freaky names.

Ive noticed several wierd names and many mistakes in the address.

I wonder if people are purposefully fake donating (i.e. making a donation with bad info that gets counted now, but has to be refunded later)

That's a real depressing thought.

Speaking of phony soldiers, a phony soldier signed the declaration of support on MilitaryForPaul.com and it was promptly removed. He was apparently trying to discredit the campaign.

"I was an army ranger stationed in Iraq. I was awarded the Bronze Star (without a valor device), a Purple Heart, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, and an Overseas Service Ribbon. I support Ron Paul's mission to get us out of Iraq. I witnessed many bad things."

Look him up on Wikipedia. What a fucking asshole.

Normally, credit cards are verified in real time - the name and address have to match the account. I wonder if these might be PayPal accounts.

I wouldn't rule it out. There are some pretty petty people in the world.

You can buy visa/MC giftcards anywhere and later activate them under any name you want through the card carrier's website. The name you use isn't verified, so someone could have used "Phony Soldier" as their name to activate their card.

i did and i have to say, isnt it at least possible the military is denying his service because they are covering something up? trying to discredit him? wouldn't be the first time. and it just over all seems like they are making crap up... i dont know im just not going to jump to believing what the media and the military say about the guy before i hear his side...

As long as the credit card is good, the rest of the information is just for FEC and they aren't going to pay attention to people using fake names on a web form as long as the cc is good.
