After working on this documentary for over a year, I am proud to announce it’s finished as of an hour ago! Tomorrow it ships off to the replicator and we’ll have copies in a few weeks. The main film and bonus sections total just shy of 4 hours of content. We want to thank those on the forum who helped us and contributed ideas and gave critiques and opinions of artwork, etc. As a whole it's better because of it.

I want to especially thank Bryan who worked behind the scenes with us critiquing sections as we finished them, offering insightful advice and things we hadn't thought of. He put a lot of hours into helping us and spent many an hour on conference calls. The film is better because of him :)

Also to Michael Maresco who went on the 10,000 mile roadtrip (http://www.ronpaulforums.com/showthread.php?t=154929) with us last year to shoot the interviews. Him being along was immensely helpful, and what a great time the three of us had talking shop for 3 weeks.

Main film - 115 mins

Bonus sections:
Walk4Freedom extended director's cut
Delivering the blimp flag to RP in DC
Campaign finance with Brad Smith (this is fascinating)
Iraq Veterans Against the War w/ Adam Kokesh
R3volution truckstop
Thomas Woods' "Lectures On Liberty" from the RP BBQ
The High Tide CFL version (with optional subtitles for the hearing impaired)
Making of The High Tide
Restore the Republic w/ Gary Franchi
The Philosophy Of Liberty
Original teaser and trailer

Anyone interested can pre-order here (helps us pay for initial replication costs). We'll start shipping orders Sept 23rd.
http://forlibertymovie.com/catalog

Several premieres are now scheduled. If you're near these locations please attend! Myself and my co-producer will be personally attending Philly and NYC, along with people who appear in the film. Party!

What you’re looking at below is the one and only master disc that ships out tomorrow.

From what I understand the DVD will play in PAL players fine. We do other productions all the time that are shipped all over the world, including to PAL countries. VHS was always a problem, but ever since it switched to DVD about 9-10 years ago it's been fine.

Jeremy
09-03-2009, 05:51 PM
CFL keeps asking me to give them money for this bloody event.... it's up to $110 and I'm not even doing that much there. I have to pay for transportation and a hotel room for 4 nights too. Don't they know we're poor college students???

Mandrik
09-03-2009, 06:01 PM
Yeah the room part is by far the most expensive part, but it is annoying how they keep tacking on charge for "extra" events. Luckily I only live 2 hours away, so I'm driving each day. Gas is way cheaper than a room.

dr. hfn
09-03-2009, 06:47 PM
It would cost like over $900 to do all the stuff at the C4L Conference, that's too expensive imho. I hope every YAL/SFL chapter gets a copy of For Liberty and shows it.

Apparently it's going to pay for the room and equipment rental for the evening. If it were up to us everyone would get in free, but that room rental is pretty pricey.

I probably would not seed the torrent if it has the extra features on it, which a big incentive for buying the DVD.. But I don't think he would mind if it were just the feature presentation.

that would be a good compromise. On one hand, you want to reward the creators for their hard work so that they will have the incentive to do another great production, but you also want to get this into the hands of as many "new" people as possible.

Well, he just implied that it was ok, so after the film comes out officially, I can seed it for a while if he expicitly gives permission.

I'd prefer to wait until after everybody gets their local premiers out of the way, but I already know there's no controlling the internet!

Can we seed a version that contains a bit of text, encouraging people to buy the DVD for the special features *and* to feed the artists? Or is that tacky?

If it's gonna be seeded eventually by some random person off the retail version, we may as well purposely beat them to it by seeding a "promo" version with some text in the beginning (good idea Angela). Would list the website and would encourage folks to purchase a retail version with the bonus features, etc. Support liberty-minded filmmakers so they can keep doing what they do best.

Would like to hold off until after the premieres though :)

I agree, everyone should buy a copy or a few copies. My question about making it available for free on the internet is more about getting the film to the masses. Alex Jones has done this to great effect and we can probably dublicate that tactic with great success if the movie is made available. A lot of people will watch it for free but they would never buy the movie. By making it available to that group of people we can get more people to see it and it will help make people aware of the movie that would have otherwise never seen it.

robertwerden
09-04-2009, 03:14 PM
Adam you could just upload a copy on google that is half resolution and flash a banner that says HD version available to purchase. There will be a HD rip eventually but most of us will buy it even if we already saw it one time online.

Thank you guys so much for documenting the last couple of years. I am really looking forward to watching this video with everyone I know. You know its easy to share the doctrine we follow, the laws we support (or don't), and the principles we believe, but being there man... that is something that is hard to share. I am already in tears thinking about the impact this video is going to have. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

The premiere last night was a blast! Feeling it today though :) Watching everyone react was just the craziest thing, pretty much felt surreal. We had 2 standing ovations and were invited back to the stage with the on hand cast as the credits rolled. An amazing feeling for sure, very pleased with everything right now. We absolutely have to get this thing out there. Many told us it's an emotional roller coaster. Lots and lots of people thanking us and wanting to talk and sign their DVD covers :o It was a looong road making the film but couldn't have asked for a better premiere and reaction :):)

A guy came to the table today and was telling us it's 10x times better than IOUSA and that we need to get into film festivals. I know we're gonna look into SXSW in Austin for sure, but am not sure how it all works.

The 2nd premiere is tomorrow in NYC and I'm dragging Bryan on the Q&A panel against his wishes :) Superstar RPH will be there too with a bunch of the "stars". Schiff has been invited and the Judge may do some kind of speech. Fun times!!

It was great.

It hasn't shipped yet. :) The only people who've seen it are the people who saw it at one of the premieres, so hardly anybody has seen it yet.

If you didn't know, I worked on subtitling the movie. I sent LLS and MsD a late-night message in the middle of it. Talk about an incoherent PM! I couldn't reveal the movie, but the movie really moved me to the point of needing some reassurance - that hardly happens. No sleep had something to do with it, but watching it again evoked the same emotions, so that's a testament to the skill of the filmakers.

Then I got to the end, which wasn't depressing at all, and felt much better. :)

I hate to sound selfish but can we get a couple weeks between DVD release and free YT vids and torrents? I know for a fact that people are already arranging community viewings so making the same video immediately available for download kinda steals the thunder and defeats the purpose of putting together a viewing party. Just a thought.

I agree with this. Right now there are many more screenings in the works, and many more are being planned and talked about by groups all over the country. A lot goes into setting these up, both time and financial. The screenings are awesome, people get together and check out the film and then discuss, etc. The theater environment makes it much more powerful and really charges people up.

We can't stop someone from putting up a torrent of the film, but an official one won't come from us until a later date.

Maybe you, The Forums, Daily Paul, along with a few other liberty sites can coordinate a Digg and Reddit day when you actually release the video online. ( IMO I think if you even get more specific on the exact time when you submit it to those sites the better) Ex. Nov. 5th at 11:11am

With a favorable review linked :)and video attached.

During the 2007-08 presidential campaignhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif (http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/article/20090926/WRT0101/909260669/1982#), two local men did all they could to support Ron Paul. http://www.sesamestats.com/PanelTracking.aspx?BannerID=BetterBankDetails2&BannerPos=dnt&BannerSite=www.anysite.com&CampaignId=AllyBankDigitalLaunch&mediaType=Banner&mediaSource=Internet

Even though the congressman from Texas did not win, Chris Rye of Hancock and Corey Kealiher of Stevens Point were baffled by the unique grass-roots movement Paul inspired.

Rye, 37, and Kealiher, 30, spent the last year traveling the country, interviewing people involved with Paul's campaign and producing a documentary, "For Liberty: How the Ron Paul Revolution Watered the Withered Tree of Liberty," which was released this week.

These two small-town men knew there would be some interest in their film, but they never imagined the nationwide interest they're receiving. More than 1,000 copies were preordered; they are swamped with interview requests; well-known authors, such as political writer Tom Woods, are promoting the film, and screenings are happening across the country.

The world premiere in Philadelphia on Sept. 18 attracted 500 people, who offered two standing ovations afterward. "We knew at that point that it was really good and people liked it. As a filmmaker, that's all you can really strive for is to have people like your work. ... It inspires you to keep going," Rye said.

Kealiher works for Creative Community Living Services in Plover and spends time with people with disabilities. He and his wife, Rosalind, 27, have a son, Abishua, 9. Rye co-owns a film and editing company, Props Visual, which is based in Illinoishttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2.gif (http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/article/20090926/WRT0101/909260669/1982#). It isn't affiliated with the film, but they used the equipment. Rye and his wife, Virginia, 34, moved to Hancock four years ago.

Rye and Kealiher invested $4,000 into the project, which they worked on during weekends. They took three weeks off in September to travel 10,000 miles across the country to speak with activists, media professors, historians and social commentators.

The documentary follows the campaign from the perspective of grass-roots activists and shows many of the supporters' unique projects. "We were just really shocked by what lengths people were willing to go to for this guy. They had just massive online fundraisers; they launched a blimp; people were flying planes. All this came out of their own pockets," Kealiher said.

Craig Groshek, 27, of Plover, was involved with the local grass-roots campaign and began "Snowmen for Ron Paul," which received national attention. He and local volunteers built snowmen in areas with high traffic, with the words "Snowmen for Ron Paul" in Christmas colors. Pictures of this are featured in the documentary.

During the campaign, Nick Danczyk, 23, of Stevens Point, drew a cartoon of Ron Paul trying to save (http://www.wisconsinrapidstribune.com/article/20090926/WRT0101/909260669/1982#) the Constitution from the Republican and Democratic parties, which also is featured. "(The documentary) is kind of what (Ron Paul's) supporters were all about: kind of taking responsibility and doing what you could at a grass-roots level," Danczyk said.

Rye said the film tells a story that many people don't know happened."We just tell it like it is ... but we did it in a way that it's really funny," Rye said. "Humor is really powerful in the film, because it kind of breaks the ice. Watch it with an open mind. "

I got my copy yesterday and sat down and watched it all straight through.

BRAVO. The production quality was outstanding. Excellent photography and editing. Could have been produced in Hollywood.

Great pace, great message, great humor. The parts I like the least were the parts where I was speaking. I look like a geek and hate seeing myself on video. Clearly, I need some media training.

Anway, the whole thing brought back the wonderful feeling that the campaign captured and although we lost, we really won because each act stands on its own merits.

I am re-energized.

I cried when Michael Nystrom teared up at the end.

I think we should make a list of demands, kind of a Manifesto, and try to develop a ground swell movement behind it. "The Freedom Manifesto"

Print it, repeat it, explain it, kind of a combination of Common Sense, the Communist Manifesto (different content) and Martin Luther's theses.

This would be the natural follow on. EDUCATION. For Liberty does a great job of telling the story of the campaign. We need a companion DVD that tells the WHY of the campaign and what changes we demand.

Best to all. We will win, it will just take time.

After looking into the film festivals (a very important part of spreading the message and getting awards/credibility for the film), they frown heavily on films on the internet. In other words, for the sake of getting into festivals we can't upload it just yet, and probably not until next spring.

Yes, that is the point. IMO, there is value in going for the film festivals, awards, etc because that can really help bring it to the people. It's a slightly longer fuse but can have a much bigger bang. :) My $0.02.

Let me make myself as clear as I possibly. If you created it, that's crappy thing to do.

If you didn't put it up, braying about its existence is a crappy thing to do.

Yes, that is the point. IMO, there is value in going for the film festivals, awards, etc because that can really help bring it to the people. It's a slightly longer fuse but can have a much bigger bang. :) MY $0.02.

Google video is shut down for new uploads, so no. They will only do YouTube if they get a directors account and can upload it all in one piece.

Thanks for the reply Bryan. I guess there might be merit in going for the festivals if there is a good chance that it will do well, and from what I hear it should (still waiting for my copy).

I just think that since Alex Jones can get millions of views by posting his slightly crazy documentaries for free online we should be able to get even more people viewing "For Liberty" if it was easily available for online streaming.

Btw, can it really be true that noone on this forum has a directors account? What about aravoth?!

After looking into the film festivals (a very important part of spreading the message and getting awards/credibility for the film), they frown heavily on films on the internet. In other words, for the sake of getting into festivals we can't upload it just yet, and probably not until next spring.

This is very true. Do not put your film online if you want to go the festival route and possibly get actual theatrical distribution. I have some limited but direct experience in this arena in the US.

I think the festival/distribution route has a high probability of success for this film, sight unseen. Go for it! In the mean time, sell the hardcopy DVDs.

Congratulations on your technical expertise.

That's pretty freaking crappy, since the filmmaker already said several times that he was going to release a legitimate free version as soon as the people having local premieres were all done.

I agree!! I'm setting one up in the OC, so it would be nice if it wasn't spoiled. These things cost quite a bit of money to put on. If any of you want to find out, do one yourself. If any money is made on it at the local level, its all going right back into promoting CFL and grassroots support. We are all volunteers.

It's totally understandable to allow the producers at least some time before releasing it for free. It's actually quite generous on their part to release it for free at all.

I agree that it is their choice of course, but I think you actually make more money by releasing it for free.

EDIT: Because A LOT more people will see it and recommend it to their friends and such and a certain percentage will also buy a copy once they've seen it.

Not that I know of- part of the issue is that they are very restrictive of people using copyrighted music and the like- and if you get dinged for it you're going to have a hard time getting in good standing. Of course there are minimal viewership requirements too- obviously aravoth is well beyond that but, IIRC, he did get hit on some music issues. AdamT has an app in for the directors account- it would be best to get it on their channel anyway.

Is it a bad thing that the night after watching For Liberty with me, a close friend had a vivid nightmare that the gov't launched a false flag alien invasion on the country? She's not into tin foily stuff and has never seen War of the Worlds, yet her dream was very vivid and specific.

She called me at 3am, "I blame you and Ron Paul for my nightmare."
My response, "Don't blame us, blame the government for even making such a dream possible." Then I told her to google her nightmare scenario because she wasn't making the whole thing up. Somebody waking up maybe?

I have heard of and been persuaded to watch a lot of interesting films because of various awards that they won and the publicity from the award(s). The ensuing reviews from mainstream film reviewers and publications are also an important benefit of festival going movies. If we want to cast a wide net over the mainstream US and world at large than festivals are where "For Liberty" needs to go.

I think the best part of the movie was that each of us identified with specific people in the video. Personally, I thought the Chicago speech really kicked it off, we also had a pilot that flew his plane up and down Lake Michigan towing a Ron Paul banner, my kids and I got a sign on top of a huge snowpile in the grocery store parking lot.....the painting parties...

I think they did a great job at capturing the spirit. Now we just have to figure out how to capture it again.

Father in Heaven, we ask that you intercede in the cause of liberty for this great country by opening the minds of the judges and helping them see that this documentary will inspire others - others who feel all alone, who think one person can't change anything - help the judges see that anything is possible, and that freedom is our only hope. Help them see their role in restoring this country to one which once again believes in and protects individual freedom.

Yeah unfortunately in some cases this is somewhat frowned upon. They all have different requirements though. The festivals basically want to "get dibs" on their selections to set themselves apart from others.

EXCELSIOR!

I received my 200 copies (I know how to get the word OUT!) and promptly set up a private screening by the Phoenix R3VOLUTIONARIES and wasn't dissapointed when over 60 people showed up at the Freedom's Phoenix Workshop in midtown Phoenix with only one day's notice!

Too long!?! NOT FOR THIS CROWD! It could have gone on another HOUR and we would have been happy - laughter, tears, and lots of clapping went on here I tell ya! It was loved as much as we loved DOING it back then at the start.

My biggest regret is not getting my footage in to Chris in time to be included. Maybe it was a good thing because even though others might have thought it too long I agree that the film wasn't truly comprehensive enough to cover what all happened during the Campaign, and a sequel (or two) are required, IMHO.

I finally found all my Super 8 tapes in a bag in storage, and have acquired a capture device and am getting it in digital format. Last night I did the first tape of meeting Michael Maresco in the middle of the Arizona Desert on his Ron Paul Ride south of Gila Bend and being escorted and greeted by dozens of Ron Paul Patriots at the Arizona State Capitol. Brilliant. More needs to be said, and I hope I have a hand in the next one.

I really liked the way you illustrated my explanation of MeetUp, and the use of my voiceovers in other parts of the film. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for including me in your film, and seeing my name in the credits for the first time in my life on the "Big Screen" :D - and being followed by such a luminary as Mary Ruwart, - I was truly honored and feel quite blessed that I am in such good company.

Now I have two movies I can't watch without crying - "America: From Freedom to Fascism" and "For Liberty - How the Ron Paul R3VOLUTION Watered the Withered Tree of Liberty"!
