Animal House in Afghanistan


Drunken brawls, prostitutes, hazing and humiliation, taking vodka shots out of buttcracks— no, the perpetrators of these Animal House-like antics aren't some depraved frat brothers. They are the private security contractors guarding Camp Sullivan, otherwise known as the US Embassy in Kabul.

These allegations, and many more, are contained in a letter sent to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Tuesday by the Project on Government Oversight, which has been investigating the embassy security contract held by ArmorGroup North America (a subsidiary of Wackenhut, which is in turn owned by the security behemoth G4S). The contractor was the subject of a congressional probe earlier this summer that found serious lapses in the company's handling of the embassy security contract, which internal State Department documents said left the embassy compound "in jeopardy." Nevertheless, the government opted to extend the company's 5-year, $189 million contract for another year.

There you go. Barry's all about cutting costs so we can have health care... that money has got to be enough for at least a hundred people to get flu shots on a government-paid health care system.

This is incredible.
They got to make sure there is no repeat of Iraq fiasco there, we had lost battle of hearts and minds there when a soldier had raped an Iraqi girl. Is alcohol necessary for freedom operation in a ultra conservative society?

If you support taxation you support the inevitable crimes that occur because of that money.

I figure, if these pictures were taken while these employees were "on the clock" so to speak, then their employers will probably fire them. If they were taken during their "off time" then who gives a shit? It's vaguely homoerotic hazing, probably significantly less offensive than "rush week" at your average college fraternity.

I guess the fact that private security contractors are murdereing thousands of peasants over there doesn't bother anybody, but a few vaguely sexually oriented pictures gets the news media in an uproar.

I shouldn't be surprised. Sex sells, and dead peasants are yesterday's news.

blame the employer of these folks aka our government. gotta love how they try to blame the contractors??? umm who hired the contractors??? ultimately our government is risking the lives of our soldiers by allowing these contractors to be hired in the first place!!!

It was reported today that now there are more contractors in Afghanistan than military. Where can we find out how much tax dollars money is being spent on these for-profit contractors there?
