Thanks for pointing that out, I had left a big db backup job on that server that was probably causing it to timeout. Should be fixed.
For some reason, I can't link the site on Safari and this never happens.

I think Matt should produce some radio ads and they should get on the air in October and November, the campaign should spend about 100k on it.

3 ads introducing Rand Paul. Rand Paul is a republican running for US senate. Rand Paul has been fighting for taxpayers in kentucky for 15 years (clip of Rand speaking). Rand Paul, the choice for Kentucky.

On healthcare use the bit from his latest speech "hear what Rand Paul has to say about the health care debate in Washington" ("I think the Congressmen should get the VA treatment ... "), Rand Paul the choice for kentucky. etc etc.

play these for 8 weeks and that should improve his name recognition then you can look at polls in December and see about getting on TV over the holidays

Well I started messaging all the authors of those videos and got through 2 pages before I realized that it stopped actually sending?! I appears that youtube limits such messages to 10 or so. It still says it sends them but they never appear in my sent folder....Anybody know more about the details of their restrictions on messages sent?
You can't send the same message more than 3 or 4 times. You have to change it up a bit.

From: http://randpaul.grassrootsite.com/?Contests

Requirements:
Advertisement Video must not exceed 30 seconds.
Advertisement Video must be at least 25 seconds in length.
You may only submit videos you created.
Must promote Rand Paul's campaign for Senate.
Must be uploaded to youtube.com

Just got a new iMac and I've been itching to do some video work! Just wondering on the part where it says, " You may only submit videos you created," does that mean we can't include snippets of Rand's speeches or videos people took at his rallies and parades? What about video of scenes of Kentucky from say, a travel dvd? Or did they just mean not to include famous movie scenes like the current Rocky them being used because of copyright issues? I'm still not quite clear on the specifics. Anyone??

All of that you listed is fine. That was just put in there because I didn't want people submitting other people's videos to the contest. But taking other peoples content, splicing and dicing and mixing and using pieces is allowed.

Great! Thanks for clarifying.

Quick update as I take a break: As of Saturday night, Sept. 12th still working on the video! I'm freakin' excited about it, but it's also been really frustrating because I'm new to iMovie so the process has been slow going.

The limited 25-30 sec. rule is killing me! I'm over by 2 sec. and I'm not sure how/ where to cut down on those 2 seconds.

I had to leave out many more ideas because of the time limit. I'm thinking of doing a full length version so I can include those ideas after I complete the 30 sec. ad. (If I can get it down to 30)! Wish me luck! ;)

Why don't you just have a high-quality video of Rand addressing the viewers for 30 seconds?

Because I'm an artist and I like torturing myself! :D

Thanks for the suggestion. Luckily, I did manage to get down to the 30 sec. requirement! Now I'm just tweeking it. But I could use some input from you guys. If you could list 5 or 6 principles that Rand stands for and would appeal most to Kentucky voters what would they be? It would have to be concise and right to the point as the clip only appears for a few seconds. Maybe a 3 or 4 word sentence at most. For example: Protect Second Amendment Rights

I have my own list (6 items) but I'm not too satisfied with it. My brain is fried and I could use a little infusion of ideas. Thanks!

Last time request for the top 5 or 6 principles we need to promote to Kentuckians about Rand Paul. Concise and to the point please because the frame will only show for a few seconds. I have a list but want to know if its good enough to promote in the video:

Restoring our Constitutional Rights
Limited Government
Cut Spending
Audit the Fed
Second Amendment Rights
Pro-Life

Thanks.

Here's a great video made by a third party candidate in New Jersey (one of the best I've seen from a third party candidate in awhile)

http://www.independentpoliticalreport.com/2009/09/daggett-launches-must-watch-ad-in-new-jersey/#more-9931

The ad “is the brainchild of Bill Hillsman, who has a reputation for doing these type of ‘quirky’ ads, for candidates like Jesse Ventura

Maybe you should try to enlist this guy?

So what kind of market should we try and appeal to, when we do these videos? I have some cool concepts that might only really work with liberty lovers, and i have some more generic concepts that might work well in terms of marketing to the general public.

Who am i trying to impress here? :)

I rather like this one. I can see where the guy was going in his thinking - bridging the past and the future history of Kentucky politics.

Who says we can't use more than one video along the way to help promote Rand to various segments of the population? I'd give this one 2 1/2 liberty bells. ;)

From Rand's Facebook:

"The voice over guy is just over the top cheese."

The announcer really sounds like he's forcing it. It sounds almost fesecious (or however one spells that word).

1 - Voiceover (dreadful - Almost reminds me of "Team America - World Police" . . . they were making a joke)

2 - Background music is cheese, but not out of the ordinary for typical political ads (that's not so good though)

GOOD STUFF... LMAO...:D:D

Here is an email from RandPaulsupporter:

"Tell all those crybabies on your facebook page to make something better. That video took me 15 minutes -- I'm waiting."

I guess that is a challenge! Will anyone take it?

A fun ad, in the style of a music video, starring Wendy Macy.

I think this is very good.

hueylong
10-14-2009, 12:53 PM
Wendy's video is really cute. It could even work for the primary if run in the right places (CMT, for example).

One key to the election is the composition of the electorate in the primary. Anything that increases turnout of the 18 - 49, and especially 18 - 34 voters should be very helpful to the cause.

I don't think so specs. In this context, it would be seen as trying to take over the party by bringing in a lot of non-republicans.

There are plenty of people already registered republican who could be persuaded to vote for Rand if they actually turn out. The 2008 Senate primary has less than 20% turnout. If we can get even a modest bulge in the 18 to 49 and especially the 18 to 34 -- it would probably help significantly.

Well currently the top 2 are these. They are tied with 3 stars each.
But with only 37 ratings each, it falls short of the 500 ratings I required for a winner in the contest rules. So, it didn't quite get as much response as I had hoped. :( I'm open to suggestions.
