The sight of 8,000 human skulls in a glass shrine stuns visitors into silence.

1.7 Million Cambodians Dead

The killing fields document death. From 1975 to 1979, Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge soldiers killed 1.7 million Cambodians, or 21 percent of the population, according to Yale University's Cambodia Genocide Program.

THEN, how ironic, more government!

all of those places have a weak central government and a lack of consistent enforcement of rules. Here in America we have a strong central government and well more consistent enforcement of rules.

Certainly all forms of government have committed atrocities to mankind but ours has allowed more people to prosper than ever before in history. There must be a line drawn on how much government is good and what areas need governed. But a complete lack of oversight allows chaos to breed, a wonderfully enchanting chaos, but a chaos most here in the United States would not want to be a part.

But it is ok for you to ignore the facts and flame me because this goes against what this site promotes.

I see government, when implemented property, as a way society can protect the individual from the harm of other individuals. This is why environmental regulation is necessary, in many instances two parties doing business with each other will not care about the interests of a third, uninvolved party.

Yeah thank God for the "strong central government" we have in the U.S., because before we had bureaucrats in Washington to micromanage every aspect of our economy and our lives there was "chaos".

gls has a point, I don't think we need the federal government to protect us from ignorant littering neighbors, local and state governments can do that just fine.

A comparison simply cannot be made between these places. To truly make a comparison you would have to look at the thousands of years of history that has led to the current state of these various countries.

I agree with that. The local governments need to be strong and consistent. Many things that we are trying to do on a national level should be determined on a local level or not at all. I am just pointing out that those places have governments that are currupt and inconsistent, with inability to enforce laws consistently and well. It shows. Many of those countries began at the same time as america. Brazil and south american

Government did not make this country prosperous - freedom and a strong work ethic did.

This country had relatively small government at ALL levels for 130 years. And during that time we grew and prospered magnificently.
