I just read an interesting article. It discusses how people feel a certain way, say in favor of universal health care or against it. Then they look for reasons to affirm the way they feel. This causes them to grasp at half truths or outright lies simply because it supports the way they feel.

I think this is key when you are trying to convince a person your view is correct. You should spend less time showing them the logic behind your reasoning and spend more showing them that their supporting reasons are not correct. I think it is important to break down this shoddy foundation they have supporting their belief first and then introduce why you feel the way you do.

Of course, this means you must first make sure your foundation is in order. Do not believe everything you read. Investigate and be sure your foundation is built on facts.
