People connected to Newt Gingrich are becoming increasingly visible on the ground here in Iowa. I think he's going to run for President.

Somewhat related, wiki says:

In September 2007, (Donald) Rumsfeld received a one-year appointment as a fellow at the Hoover Institution (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoover_Institution) at Stanford University (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanford_University),[75] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Rumsfeld#cite_note-74) joining (among others) retired Army Gen. John P. Abizaid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_P._Abizaid), former commander of US forces in Iraq, and fellow conservatives (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservative) George Shultz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Shultz) and Newt Gingrich (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newt_Gingrich). He will participate in the institution's new taskforce studying post-September 11 ideology and non-state terror (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_terrorism).Of course Rumsfeld is neocon big pharma war profiteer to the core. This wing of elites still has some sway. Looks to me like it's this 'group' that does much of the coopting we see, attempting to defend its 'Republican Party' turf from actual Conservative principles. Perhaps Newt will attempt a 3rd party 'groundswell' and the 'grassroots appeal' will be manufactured on FOX

Gingrich running 3rd party would be a godsend for the Obama camp. He'd suck away votes from the Republican without actually having a snowball's chance of winning anything thus guaranteeing a second term for Obama.

This is Good.

Rudy Giuliani would probably also jump in few weeks. Neocons field would be crowded again in GOP.

That is who Dan Carlin said would probably be the next Republican hope... about 7 or 8 months ago.

That was my next thought, but

without actually having a snowball's chance of winning anything thus guaranteeing a second term for Obama.I'll never believe that again. McCain (liberal) won the Republican nomination. Kissinger is on TV giving financial commentary. Cheney shot a man in the face, and the guy apologized to him later. Palin is taken seriously.

Anything is possible.

I have no problem with Gingrich jumping in.

It'll take away votes from the establishment candidates, making it a bit easier for RP or Gary Johnson.

We need a flood of liberty candidates to drown out and marginalize the neocon candidates. Bad enough Gingrich but the thought of a Giuliani being in the debates and news again is sickening.

If he wanted to run he would have last election. There is no support for a guy like him. He would be the Rudy of 2012, all hype, but no votes.

Since you are in Iowa what other candidates do you hear about?

I don't know, I'm hearing his name out there more and more often. His daughter was on some radion show the other night, Hannity keeps throwing his name out there, and he was recently on a local talk show here in Ohio as well. He's getting ready to step up I think, we need to get ready to block him now

In 2012 polls, he's ranked 4th, just behind the main 3.

He is definently running.

I think Gingrich/Huckabee/Romney are probably the biggest threats atm, followed by Pawlenty. In the end I do kind of hope that Sarah Palin throws her hat in, if only to split the neocon primary. The question is what can be done about it on our end. IMO anything third-party related is doomed to failure.

Doesn't stand a chance.

If he wanted to run he would have last election.

The exact opposite. Pretty much everybody knew from the outset of the last election that ANY republican would be a longshot against ANY democrat. The fact that he stayed out of it last time says to me that he was saving up his cache for one big run against obama in 2012.

Huckabee is still a big favorite and he's been visiting. There's lots of pent-up support for Palin - but she hasn't showed up yet. I even hear some people hoping she'll run as an indy or 3rd party. I hear some talk of Pawlenty since he's just up the street in MN. I see activity from Romney people but he hasn't been here, either.

Right now I'm noticing the Gingrich people raising the profile, though he hasn't appeared in person yet.

1996

Newt Gingrich is often viewed as a conservative politician. This video is a speech John McManus, president of the John Birch society gave in 1996 which exposes the REAL Newt Gingrich by examining his track record.

Gingrich/Palin 2012. Taking bets now.

I prefer Gingrich to Obama, but that doesn't change the fact that both are filthy neocon politicians.

We need a flood of liberty candidates to drown out and marginalize the neocon candidates.

Shouldn't we want one liberty candidate taking on all of the neocons? That way, all pro-liberty Republicans will vote for one candidate in the primaries while the neocons will be split up over who to vote for.
