The first thing I noticed about all the folks at town halls and presidential events "caught" with loaded guns by the media over the past week was the suspiciously high percentage of former Ron Paul supporters among them. Both the guy in New Hampshire carrying a semiautomatic pistol and a sign referencing Thomas Jefferson ("It's Time to Water the Tree of Liberty" by the blood of patriots and tyrants) and one of the demonstrators strapped with an AR-15 semiautomatic rifle in Phoenix campaigned for Paul last year. William Kostric, the man packin' in Portsmouth, appeared on Chris Matthews's Hardball the next day; the Phoenix gunman had actually arranged in advance with local police and media to expect him, so his appearance was more of a stunt than anything else, a provocative demonstration of "gun rights" carried out in a legalistic, thoroughly Ron-Pauly way.

I think he is correct.
There are those of us outside the matrix... and we all happen to see Ron Paul as the real deal.

It can't be.
There are no Ron Paul supporters.

The rest degrades into the typical 'they're all wackos', ending with the usual gleeful, 'I can't wait for them to shoot someone so we can get the upper-hand in the turf war again'.

I can't wait until an open-carry person prevents Obama's assassination despite the secret service trying to let it happen.

I can't wait for the video of the SS doing it, or assisting it. ;)
Keep those cameras rolling.

The nation is a full-on communist rag. I mean, they are true believers.

The Nation has always been a hefty arm against Ron Paul. They played up the fake racist newspapers during the primary.

Great. As long as none of these people use any violence I don't see what the problem is.

http://www.thenation.com/doc/20090831/bischoffThey keep talking about how this gun thing was prearranged as though this somehow discredits the point they were trying to make. Well, it was only rational to make sure the police were on board. I just don't get this idea that somehow it was inauthentic because the guy didn't just show up spontaneously with his gun. And to his credit, what's his name (the radio guy) was completely upfront about having prearranged it with the police. You shouldn't have to do that, but you would be a fool if you didn't in the current anti-gun environment. Sometimes, just obeying the law is not enough not to get you into trouble.

You don't understand. They have to come up with SOME kind of way to discredit this.

1) They can't honestly call it racist because one of the protesters were black. (Although they did dishonestly try this.)

2) They can't call it "dangerous" since the police and secret service were involved.

3) They can't said it was pushed by the GOP since the GOP had nothing to do with this.

So all they have left is "it was staged".

Where are the headlines of Obama being intimately linked to La Raza and SEIU spitters?

I think that one thing that almost 100% of us can agree on is that we are unapologetically pro-2nd Amendment, just as we are unapologetically pro-1st Amendment.

I would be concerned if these guys were "yee-haw" gun types, but they have all been very well-spoken and far, far less violent than Obama himself thus far, who has ramped up the wars and now has blood on his hands.

Bill Maher was smack talking "the black guy with an AK47" tonight on Real Time. I *never* watch the show, but I have off tonight and was looking to watch a movie. This show is total crap.

I'm assuming that tool called him an Uncle Tom for standing up against the man and refusing to be a slave, regardless of the color of the man's skin.

JMDrake is right too in that they couldn't possibly be objective in their reporting, and thus need to find a reason to discredit/show the act is inauthentic.

Are they trying to make people like Ron Paul, or are they just backfiring?

I remember when I used to subscribe to The Nation.

Thank GOD I regained my senses!

A family member of mine bought me a subscription to the Nation because they are worried I'm being brain washed by the right-wing and Republicans.

I read them every now and then--only when they have an article that interests me, such as their big piece criticizing the Federal Reserve. In the article, they mention (I'm paraphrasing here) that "there is even legislation in the House to audit the Fed and it has the support of 250 members." My point is, they of course didn't mention that that's Ron Paul's bill.

This show is total crap.Bill has gotten much, much worse in recent times. He has morphed into a full fledged asshole. I happen to agree with him about a lot of things - I'm not a fan of prohibition, hypocrite politicians and religion (with apologies to my religious friends - I would never deny anyone's right to worship and believe as they wish.) - but think he is a total asshole in terms of government, socialism and gun rights and he treats people he disagrees with like they are imbeciles. He seems to think that smugness and self satisfaction are virtues in and of themselves.
