I don't see how a federal holiday expands the size of government. There is no federal mandate to shut down businesses on MLK day or any other federal holiday. In fact you could consider it a "shrinking" of government because the bureaucrats get the day off.

If you get a bureaucrat out of the office and away from his government checkbook you save the country money whether he is paid or not. ;) Anyhow, unless you're begrudging all federal holidays there's no reason to single this one out.

Other websites such as TNR suggest Paul voted for MLK day.

Supposedly Paul had, before 1983, voted against MLK day. This article is said to be from "The Paris News".

In my mind the vote isn't settled. Where would one begin to find the voting records for 1983 anyway? Maybe if I have free time and remember I'll check my local library.

Yes folks, it's true. Ron Paul has voted to expand government in the past and will likely do so in the future. This is true for the vast majority of elected Libertarian Party members (like Paul is) and every elected Republican Party member (like Paul is) that I've ever heard about.

However, he is usually for freedom so it isn't a big deal. Paul doesn't claim to be an anarchist, after all.
