View Full Version : Good ways to learn about politics?

What do you think are some things that teach important things about politics?

I know I personally would be interested to have some things like documentaries, books, websites, etc., whatever named to look at to learn about different parts of how our government should work. I would also like your opinions on this because I'm building up my friends list on myspace so I could use some good sources of information to post for people to read.

And don't think it can be too simple either, a personal friend of mine didn't even know if the state we live in voted republican or democrat, and which of the two parties were "better," whatever he meant by that, I'm guessing which to vote for.

I think Freedom to Fascism is a great documentary, but its looooong and most people won't watch all of it, plus it gets into implantable tracking chips at the very end which will make some people reject the entire video as conspiracy theory non-sense, so I don't like to post it really that much.

So what do you think are good sources to go to for learning about stuff like the following, or anything else important I might forget to mention:

Taxes
Foreign Policy (or specifically Iraq and/or Afghanistan)
Abortion
Border Security
The Federal Reserve and/or monetary policy
Healthcare
Global warming
Gun control/ Gun rights
Basics of the government, like how the branches work etc..
The war on drugs
Principles of economics; explanations of why free markets work not gov.

Documentaries are ok, but I think other things are more effective because most people just don't want to spend two to four hours watching a documentary about politics, sadly. I think stuff like short videos and articles are much better because more people will take a look at it.

And you can take this opportunity to educate me as well lol. Afterall, I only woke up once Ron Paul ran for president, so I know there is still a lot I could learn even though I'm constantly reading. Before that I thought politics was a good bit corrupt, pointless, and could have cared less about it, but Dr. Paul cured my apathy as they say lol.

Well are vice president seems to be concerned about it

YouTube - Vice Pres Elect Biden States Chip Implants will Be Ruled On (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0_chJqTsoo&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fvideo.google.com%2Fvideosearch%3 Fq%3Dbiden%2520chip%2520implant%26oe%3Dutf-8%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26um%3D1%26ie%3DUT&feature=player_embedded#t=21)

And it's been a few years since I've seen Freedom to Fascism - don't remember it being long, but if you want something short and conspiracy free on how government is supposed to work, direct people to Overview of America
Overview of America - Public Service - DVD (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6732659166933078950)

Foreign Policy: "Why We Fight" is a MUST (you'll want to buy the DVD after watching it, as I have)
Documentary – “Why we fight?” (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=9219858826421983682)
they have a free study guide too (about 80 pages) - download here:

Afghanistan:

the author has a great short book called "The Terrorist Trap"

Income tax:

I slapped together a page with the best quotes from that book here:

I haven't read "Income Tax Causes Crime" yet but I want to buy it:

Thanks a lot! I certainly agree the gov really wants those chips, but a lot of people, like my brother for example, will not want to accept it as reality and therefore reject it as "conspiracy theory non-sense." You know what they say, if you throw the frog in hot water it jumps out, but if you warm it in the pot you can boil it and it won't jump out.

I mean me personally it was step by step, not like I'm clueless and then someone suddenly tells me the government wants to track me with a computer chip inside me. I would have dismissed it at first probably as being something that could happen far in the future, but not in our lives.

I do sometimes post freedom to fascism and the obama deception though, but only occasionally.

Example: New Deal Era..... I frequent used book stores and purchased books from different decades to gain a time perspective on the era. It's amazing how somethings seem more important depending on the political climate of the country. Then knowing the positions of the authors that did the research helps.

How many people here have read "Planned Chaos" in an original printing?

Learn economics. Then suddenly politics will make sense.

Learn Austrian Economics like Ron Paul did. As he has said, he wouldn't have had a political "career" without it.

Yeah thats a great site! I had almost forgotten about it too. I just went on it and found a great article about healthcare and posted that in a bulletin. Thanks for mentioning it!

No worries! :)

Make sure you check out the Media section and Literature section.

Free audiobooks, pdfs of entire books... FREE god damn yoU! :D

Seriously, that site is worth more than a college education. And you'll actually learn with that.

I suggest folks get downloadhelper.net and visit the media section... find lectures you want to listen to, and download them all.

Put them on your ipod, mp3 player... listen to work... on the way home, to or from school.

Seriously... do it.

IBM said it was looking to DNA "origami" for a powerful new generation of ultra-tiny microchips.
